Is there a tweak to disable grenade-throwing animation?

Post by PoorOldSpike »

Can I start off the week by asking a couple of embarassingly stupid questions?
Firstly, the top pic is a typical exchange of fire; the crisp brief rattle of gunfire and muzzle blasts are fine, but is there any way I can get rid of the grenade-throwing animations (arrowed) which slow things down? The damage caused by grens can still be there of course but it's just the animation I don't want.

Secondly, what's that 'spinning' option mean in the bottom pic? What exactly is supposed to be spinning? I've played with the option on and off but can't see what effect it has either way-

IMO none of them are, actually

You'll find the definition of each effect in the \Data\effectSequences.txt file. You can try to edit them to your liking. Maybe a simple "find&replace" of some lines and deleting them could work. Don't forget to make backups!
You get some good pointers how to do that in this thread

(yeah, yeah, I know...you'll have to read a little and you're worried about your age. But I'm sure you'll get through both: reading some posts or a manual and playing a whole campaign  )

I think it's the animation of the flag in the bottom UI during the AI's turn.

Yeah, re " spinning" - the flags in the UI had a diffferent look originally - now they are "waving" like flags in wind, but earlier they were roundel style symbols that were rotating while the AI was moving.

So a bit like a "wait" cursor. The option "spinning" was added to disable this effect.

The spinning effect may cause epileptic issues for some people.
That explains the disable option.
It was reported as a possible issue back in the day by yours truly.
