Yes, that's right, you have broken the unspoken code, and mentioned The Forbidden. An enormous swarm of Hit-Gerbils are already on their way to enforce the sanction, each tiny assassin clad in black trenchcoat and mirror shades...

Nothing so esoteric, I fear.

I think they do. If you look carefully he says their backups were compromised.

There is a post in the news section regarding the problem, either way not a great thing to happen but we can cope.

Unfortunate to be sure, but at the same time, we're all still here and posting a fresh. I'm just grateful that this forum is up and running :)

Yes it was a bit painful. Anyone who registered in the last month will have their account wiped :(

We learned some lessons and once we get this fixed it shouldn't be possble that it happens again. As well as the backups to the server we will be backing up to an external ftp in some way so nobdoy can wipe us out again. In some ways it's lucky that we recently moved as it's only the backup from the moving process that we had stored externally. All the passwords have also been reset.

Ian, you have my sympathy for what it is worth. Those of use who work in DP have all been there at one time or another.

Another Aspect of the Problem

Post by jcmedhurst »

Hi,

Also got a slightly strange effect since the 'problem', which is the green buttons don't show up any more to indicate new topics and replies. This had only recently started working with Firefox (which is what I use as a browser), which is why I wonder if it might also have something to do with the 'problem'.

The green buttons on Firefox weren't working for me immediately after the reset, but it turned out that my automatic log-in had to be reset.

Check if you are signed in. I noticed that too but then realised I was not signed in. Resetting the server must wipe the cookie that signs you in automatically and the read/not read symbols are only set for users, not guests.

Green buttons now appearing. Woo-hoo. No intervention required on my part, maybe the cookie is there now.

I got the same error message as when this happened the first time a couple of hours ago. Perhaps they have a fallback now?
