Most probably there doesn't need to be an objective or reward for killing off enemy units. It has to be done anyways and I like to wipe out enemies just because they deserve it.
Have you played Blitzkrieg 2: Fall of the Reich? It had good mission designs although very difficult and the Germans were always on the backfoot facing hordes of angry Soviets like in one mission you have to hold off Soviet counterattacks from the east while you attack over a river in the south to takeover a train station so a trainload of wounded German soldiers could pass through. I had to replay the mission like 10 times maybe to finally win. I had to use Stukas to wear down the Russian defenses in the station area before I sent in the troops and tanks to clear it. OOB is a better game cause you don't have to worry about your army being massacred due to a bad decision like a meatgrinder attack without prepping the enemy positions, but could benefit from those kinds of mission designs. Some of the battles in that campaign were not big historical ones in famous areas, but unknown villages and places with fierce battles passing through them which is what made up most of the real war. There were large defensive battles too like in Narva where your infantry desperately hold the line in trenches while arty, AT guns and Nashorns wear down the angry rabid horde and you rush in reinforcement tanks & troops to parts of the line caving in.
I was talking about some Blitzkrieg missions, which gave you cities to conquer and a set amount of units to kill to win. This led in some scenarios to the absurd situation where you were scouting the map to find the last unit to win while the counter was ticking down. Happened to me in Kiev, to others in Dunkirk, others in Greece. (Google the threads, worth reading.) I think it is mostly bad mission design. They have rewritten Kiev because it was so annoying to hunt units on the far end of the map. Dont get me wrong, Blitzkrieg is still fun and the best DLC yet.
(Thinking about it, after playing Blitzkrieg I kind of realized how much it OoB has improved over the last DLCs. This is a work in progress and the devs are slowly getting the hang of this.)
Havent played Blitzkrieg 2, but will check it out on youtube. Probably wont be able to play it in the foreseeable future. Job, girl, summer coming up.
