Slow play of computer?

Post by bruce1944 »

Love this game! :D Great graphics! :D I have one huge gripe  , is there any way to speed up the computer turn in single play??? Maybe its just my box but the game just crawls thru the computer turn. Can the play of the comp be skipped to speed up the action???

There have been a few reports of slower AI since the update. We're looking into it and are implementing a number improvements. As far as I can tell I have not experienced a major difference myself, but it's a constant balancing act between better AI and faster AI.

Computer lag has been a problem with this game since day one. I have played OOB on two different systems, one of them being an ultra fast PC I bought a few months ago and the game still lags. Morning Sun was ok, and after a series of patches OOB finally corrected this problem, but this latest expansion seems like a huge step backwards. On the plus side, it's a great game still.

Not wishing to pile on here, but there is a significant difference in AI processing time from 2.2.5 to 2.3.8, enough to derail a scenario that I was designing. Tolerable AI playing time went to - no kidding - 20 minutes per turn. I've been advised to simplify it but, is that really what I want to do?

Given a choice, I would pick a slightly dumber AI than this plodding ponderer. Maybe I have not been playing long enough, but I did not mind the old AI at all. Seemed OK to me.

If this were a beer ands snacks game...at the AI rate of turn completion..I'd be on the floor looking up in short order!

It has indeed gotten slower since I last played a few months ago. I recently purchases the Chinese and Marine campaigns. I have a serious problem with the Nanchang scenario, it gets hung on the computer's 1st turn and will not advance. I've tried restarting the scenario using different units restarting the game, my computer and nothing. I waited over 30 mins after the loading bar was filled and still nothing.

Also what happened to the train transport icons when moving a unit from a town? If i don't want them in a train I have no idea where the train transport starts unless i look at the unit info.

I see here and in Tech Support some acknowledgement of this issue. Perhaps a game-wide hot fix in in the works?

Indeed, we're working hard on a number of optimisations to the AI code. This won't be a silver bullet, some turns are just hard for the AI to calculate, especially when it is on the back foot, but we hope it will bring about a noticeable improvement across the board.

Note that if you have a turn that never ends, this is most definitely a bug and it would be very helpful if you could upload a log file and savegame for us.

Please try this beta patch if you are experiencing significantly slower AI turns since the latest patch:

Better. Much better. My infamous AI 20-minute turn 3 in 2.3.8 is only 7 minutes, 35 seconds in 2.3.9b and this is before some tweaks that were suggested by a helpful expert. I am back in the saddle again and I am also very grateful. Now, can we keep the AI on this level, please? So far, it's doing the same expected things as it did in the past, no dumber or smarter! It always seemed smart enough to me (of course, that could be a measure of how dumb I am ). Thank you very much.

my 27 " imac could never get through the Nanchung scenario, the ai hung on the first turn and never resolved restarted three times with the same results. It did work on my PC though but not the iMAc

not sure if it's this patch, but all of a sudden, I can no longer see supply paths (the arrows from supply ships to shore).

Running OOB on a Bootcamp-equipped MBP.

Win 10 - things have sped up to an acceptable level since the beta patch.

El Capitan - things remain largely the same.

I am looking forward to improvements to both platforms with the next full release.
