Conforming to routers

Post by philqw78 »

If a BG charges routers must it conform. If it does can it then do other conform things like shift bases into contact?

If it doesn't can I then angle my charge so that I can shepherd the routers in the direction I want?

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!

Yes and no. Since the bases would never (ever) fight then you can't expand.

No for the reason above.

Perhaps you could go back to basics please?

1. Can a BG declare a charge on a routing enemy BG?

2. If the answer to Q1 is "yes", what are the mechanics of resolving the impact, combat and joint action phases?

You can (and indeed must if you are shock) declare charges on routers.

There is no impact or melee, just a pursuit in the jap as normal against routers.

The trick then is that the routers must rout in the direction of the charge, can sometimes have useful effects

Nope, because the chargers conform in the movement phase

I've played this wrong in the past.

The conforming rules are all about conforming to the enemy in close combat. Since close combat stops once one side has routed, I think it's the case that there is no close combat going on, so you don't conform. Hence I think you can actually direct the routers in this way; which I've played wrong before.

there's a bit in the Impact section which specifically deals with how charging routers works.

So we can shepherd routers in the direction of charge then. Brilliant!

Back to the mechanics then....

During the Impact Phase I charge routers and make contact with them on an angle (in other words the front corner, not the front edge, of my base is the first thing to touch the routers). Nothing more happens until the JAP (i.e. my chargers don't line up because no close combat will be fought). In the JAP, routers make a rout move directly away from the enemy in contact. This causes them to wheel to be parallel with the front edge of my (former) chargers.
