Order of Battle: Pacific or Pacific Corps?

Post by Longasc »

http://www.slitherine.com/games/order_of_battle_pacific

Order of Battle: Pacific is the first title in a new series of hexagonal strategy games developed by The Artistocrats (www.the-artistocrats.com), designed to cover military history from ancients to modern warfare. The Artistocrats was founded by members of the team who created Panzer Corps.

Sorry for fearmongering! But this announcement hit me with as much surprise as the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and it made me wonder about the future of Panzer Corps.

Where did the Panzer Corps team go? Not that I have any right to know that, I am really not that interested in this question.
But it makes me wonder: Will there be a "Pacific Corps" vs "Order of Battle: Pacific", or will both studios decide to focus on different fronts, will Kerensky and Rudankort still work on Panzer Corps or rather on Order of Battle and all that?

Yeah, I am worried. Panzer Corps and even more so its Grand Campaign and later Allied Corps/Africa Corps not only managed to revive the legendary Panzer General but really surpassed it.

I hope at least the core of the "winning team", there is an old saying you shouldn't change a winning team, is still working on Panzer Corps sequels. :D

If possible forget my badge at the left, as this my personal opinion as a Panzer Corps fan.
In a game there's never a winning team nor a looser team. It's the whole team efforts that can make it great or not.
Rudankort and Uran21 belongs to "Flashback Games", they are not related with "The Lordz". Karensky I think it's independent (maybe he can correct me).
Some members of "The Lordz" team left and funded another developers studio "The Artistocrats". It's happening all the time in big and small companies, it's no big deal. Hell, it even happened in my life, I'm divorced. :)
So "The Artistocrats" are creating a new game named "Order of Battle: Pacific" that will have some Panzer General mechanics. Some Panzer Corps modders are also involved in the new game.
"Flashback Games" and "The Lordz" will still remain working and supporting "Panzer Corps".
Really, I don't see anything to be worried about. It's not even a competition. The worst that it might happen is we end up having two games with similar, but surely not the same, Panzer General game mechanics. It's a double win situation for me. ;)

The Panzer Corps team is Flashback Games (Programming & Design) and The Lordz Games Studio (Art & media) and they are going strong. PzC iPad is in final testing and soon to release and the next big project is the recently announced Warhammer 40,000 Armageddon. The next big thing after for Panzer Corps after iPad is TBD at the moment. We still hope to do Soviet Corps to complete the picture but want to get iPad our the way before we make any decisions. The team have lots of ideas and only limited time and I think they want a break from WW2. Armageddon gives them a chance to do this while they recharge their batteries :)

OOB Pacific is a new developer formed by Lukas, an ex Lordz Artist & Designer who worked on Panzer Corps and Commander the Great War and who has written a new engine in Unity which looks really really cool.

To whom are you referring?
The developers studios that work with us (Slitherine/Matrix/AGEOD) are spread all over the world, although most in Europe (West and East), North America and Australia. :)

I meant specifically Flashback Games and The Artistocrats. Or don't the developers have fixed locations and just work networked?

Hmm kinda disconcerning no? Up next for PC is TBD, Soviet Corps, is a "hope to do" and DLC for the Allies would seem out of the question?

Soviet Corps is a definitely coming, the only question is when, as Lordz has so many games in development at this point, only a portion of our projects that are in development have been officially announced so far.

Most likely Soviet Corps is for late summer 2014.

We have a 4-day meeting with Slitherine next week, discussing all our projects and together with Alex (Flashback Games) and Slitherine we have to decide what is next for the PzC team. At the moment we have our hands full with finishing the PzC iPad port and the Warhammer 40,000 game series.

I noticed "Warhammer 40,000 Games Series" above... I hadn't realised we were eagerly awaiting a whole series?! :D
Favourite Games Before Panzer Corps: Pacific General, People's General, Panzer General II... pure magic!

I have to say, reading between the lines here, I don't expect a "Pacific Corps" or "Eastern Corps."

I just don't get the feel the money is there. It takes a certain sustaining momentum to keep expanding a line and as much as many of us love PC, I don't think it's growing at a rate that can keep talented writers and developers occupied.
