Maybe it's just me, but something feels wrong about listening to 1940ies Nazi propaganda songs while playing a game. I guess everybody draws the line at a different point. This just seems to be going too far.

It has been interesting listening to it in WinAmp...some of the songs are great! The 'Munchkins' I was referring to are in the smaller file, I think the second song...it may be as you say just the recording technique but...all I could picture was the Wizard of Oz Munchkins dressed up in German uniforms singing and drinking beers! :)

If it is too much trouble, I understand but, thanks for putting it together!

Thats your opinion and you're entitled to it. However, if you listen to them you will not most of the songs are about women and the prowess of their service. Did the Nazis exploit that, sure they did. But when I listen to Talonsofts EASTFRONT I always liked the sound track. But I have always been interested in martial music and always will be. I have 1800 British Fife and drum and Revolutionary war, US Civil War, World War 1 German and US, Prussian and Russian from many era's. It's all about setting the tone and for me its part of the military culture, and in this case the music, the fueled the times.

You should be careful of your jugdment, people in this forum are interested in military, economics and social events that led and became to be WWII...and the way the war was fight.
When i hear the present day propaganda of the teaparty-republican in the US, i wounder if you should not start woundering if history will not replay itseflt... As far as the music is concerned, the social-democrat in me disagree with the nazi songs but, i cannot rewrite history...

I am careful to judge, that's why I wrote "maybe it's just me" and "i guess everybody draws the line somewhere else". :)

The designers of this game made the decision to not include certain topics in the game. They choose not to use historical flags (swastikas) and there are no references to Hitler, National-socialism, Antisemitism and the Holocaust, even though these are a major part of the history of this war. I agree with their decisions to not include these topics.

To be clear, I'm not saying that using this music mod, or using the historical flags mod makes anyone a bad person. It just feels wrong to me, personally, to listen to a song that glorifies National-socialism while playing a campaign that enabled one of the worst genocides in history.

I can see how for other people, even the original version of this game can be seen as problematic. Again, we draw different lines.

As a thought experiment, would you still enjoy this game if the mission briefings contained antisemitic and racist Nazi ideology? Or would it feel wrong?

You know what, you have some valid concerns. I guess I should have place a caveat to specify this was not an attempt at pushing Nazi Ideology. However, to recognize some of the music, that was such a cultural phenomenon, during that time does add something to the game for me. As WW2 reenactor I have been a Russian, German, Brit and American. One of the universal themes as well had down time cleaning weapons and eating and so on, was we always had those cool hand cranked record players playing music. For me it represents comradery solidarity with the guys around you, its a cool feeling. As a former real soldier I can relate to that. So I tried to share that. Also I will be releasing a US World War 2 MOD as well as a Russian. I have to do a bit of research on the Russian music to get MP3s though.

I do assure you this is not an effort to spread propaganda.

Also, I would also point out that the reason most game will not use historic symbols, from WW2, is because you would not be able to market the games in Germany at all. Understandable really but most historians I know don't feel compelled to separate the symbols from the regime. Again it was reality. Amongst reenactors we have a kind of acronym for that kind. FARBY (Far be it from reality).

Your thought experiment reminds me that, this an old debate. on one side the use of nazi symbolism, rhetoric etc... could be seen as apologetic and on the other side
whitewashing it to a point, that is was only a military war, failing the duty to remember the rest.

both side have good arguments, so i agre with you, to the individual to draw the line.

I am Afraid I am not that tech savy. I tried to figure it out but could not. To be truthful I don't really know what the hell I am doing. I am just trying to offer a alternative to game play music I didn't like with some cool historical music. If you or anyone else can make a GME compatible file please do so and I will hang it on the main mod post and give you credit for it.

Unfortunately my file will not play out. It plays ten songs and starts over. But if you listen on MPLayer it will go for the 8. something hours. Anyone else having this issue?

He is still active on the forum: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1617
Maybe worth to send him a PM, too...

I wouldn't mind having all the songs at one place either, just for historical contexts/knowledge... (e.g. as mp3s)
