Any chances for an Expansion?
We all remember that CEAW is "the first form the series" but I was wondering whether or not it is possible that there will be an expansion to CEAW before next games? If such an add-on added things like weather representation (fog, clouds, mud), paratroopers, more moddability and some new scenarios (probably lower scale ones - Ardennes, Crete etc) I for one would be very happy to buy it.
Without question, this has the opportunity to advance it's status from a "great" strategy game to an all-time classic. There aren't too many things to change, but the one big add-on I'd love to see is some dialed-down hexagons, so that each current land hex is converted to many smaller hexes. Thus, allowing armies and divisions to occupy a much smaller space. It seems a little unrealsitic that German and Russian armies can literally build an impenetrable "Wall" of forces along a 1000 mile border.

And too think some SC2 player grumble that CEAW has got too many hexes...Panzer987 wrote:Without question, this has the opportunity to advance it's status from a "great" strategy game to an all-time classic. If a larger number of hexes were implemented then the unit size should be reduced to, at least, a divisional level....a great oportunity to add more classes of units.
On the other hand the AI turn resolution would be unbearable...it takes several loong minutes now...it would be much worse if more units are present. What about a "quick turn" button that showws the final results of the combats? perhaps marking with an icon where units have been attacked.

Its good idea one big add for this game. This game is very good.
So the series is going back in time and the next game will be Commander Napoleon
. Mmm, I was expecting something like WW2 in the Pacific. I mean the Napoleonic wars were fought in Europe, so it will be basically the same map. Can we still expect an expansion for CEAW? Or something similar as the last Strategic Command patch that brings a world map scenario? I hope so because CEAW has a lot of development potential.

The only plan we have so far is the Commander Napoleon at War. Rest will be decided later on (most likley aftr CNAW release) and depends on a lot of factors for example how the fanbase look in 6-12 months hence where there is a demand for a new gamesyagrius wrote:So the series is going back in time and the next game will be Commander Napoleon. Okay thanks Johan. Even if there is a lot of Napolenic games out recently I am sure that with the CEAW engine and gameplay it will be another great game!
I understand that CEAW upcoming patch will arrive soon, does that patch includes new features or is a standard patch with a few tweaks and AI improvements?

I assure you at least some of us will be here waiting for more WW2 related contentfirepowerjohan wrote:The only plan we have so far is the Commander Napoleon at War. Unfortunately the designers made clear in previous posts that they concieve CEAW as a finished game and the patches would only fix small things. Which is a shame as many of us would love to see further game options. Maybe a CEAW 2 some day?syagrius wrote: I understand that CEAW upcoming patch will arrive soon, does that patch includes new features or is a standard patch with a few tweaks and AI improvements?
CNAW looks awesome although it looks equal to CEAW. Replacing the "train transport" for "wagons" is kinda funny...

I agree, Ryben, on a CEAW 2. It is pretty standard that games, once released, do not undergo serious overhauls. Speaking for myself, the suggestions I have made (e.g., naval intercept, different partisan model) that go beyond modding existing parameters are made for consideration in a CEAW 2.Unfortunately the designers made clear in previous posts that they concieve CEAW as a finished game and the patches would only fix small things. In the mean time, I am enjoying it in its current iteration.
I think that, if developers could make something like that they would do itsyagrius wrote:I disagree. The dev for Strategic Command 2 released a patch that allows to play in the Pacific. Now that show a lot of dedication to a game to add such a feature without charging a dime to the players.
But, after reading a lot of posts, it seems clear to me that CEAW was not created as an open game and it´s very restricted in the amount of changes you could implement on it.
Many of us have suggested simple changes like, for example, allow building of forts but that can´t be done. If this is not possible, much less open a new front (like the Pacific).
But i´m sure the designers are taking notes and would try a more open approach in future games.

While SC2 does indeed get a very good support in the patches (so does CEAW comparing the time each game is on the market) the patch that you refer to included a world scenario that AFAIK was a mod made by a game user, not Hubert.syagrius wrote:I disagree. I think it is fair to mention also that SC series is currently working on their 2nd expansion pack while all the upgrades so far for CEAW have been for free
I think we have succeeded very well in the stability of the game. Rarely no new critical bugs are found at this stage (most new bugs are tcpip issues) which is a rare example of how most games of this complexity works.
There are some obstacles to do new features sometimes since it has to do with look & feel and player feedback. The artist company have finished their job for the product so it is not very kind to persuade them to produce new arts and buttons or UI design layouts in order to put more features into play.
Sentry option we used with a single hotkey 's' but some other things like building forts has to be fed back to the player shown as a button and/or tooltip somewhere we cannot make the game a "hotkey" game only for experts
