game crashes at start up
the game crashes when single player is selected from start menu. it worked perfectly yesterday, today it refuses too. all other buttons work on main menu but when single player is pressed computer freezes and an error messgae comes on windows.
Re: game crashes at start up
Hi Daking,
If it worked fine yesterday, I would suggest rebooting your PC. If that doesn't work, could you get the log file (ctgw.log) from the Commander The Great War folder in your documents library, and upload it here?
Is the error message the standard 'not responding' windows message, or does it give any details?

the messgae on windows after the game freezes is "commander the great war has stopped working a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
i have recieved no notifications from windows that a solution has been found. i have tried re booting lots of times but to no avail.
hope this helps. all the best. ps i love your games, its great that a company tackles strategy gaming for history buffs like my self.

Re: game crashes at start up
Please try renaming '.ctgw' to 'dodgysavegame.ctgw' and try running the game.
Re: game crashes at start up
i tried that but still doesnt seem to work. i now have a new error message. instead of the game getting to the start menu and freezing it only gets to the slitherine pre menu and when the play game button is pressed a mesage pops up automatically saying " extension missing: ARB_vertex_buffer_object
this message is new so hopefully we are getting somewhere and im getting closer to the real action!

Re: game crashes at start up
i just tried the game again, the message dosent come up straight away. the intro begins, when ever a button is pressed, mouse or keyboard the intro sequence and sound freezes for a split secound then continues. it is only after the sequnce is over or the esc button is pressed to speed throu the intro that the message previously stated appears. thanks again, all the best.
Re: game crashes at start up
I am having the same problem. I have tried re-downloading openGL and updating my graphics card but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
Re: game crashes at start up
Hi andrewb31,
Could you attach a dxdiag report here so we can see what system you're using?

Re: game crashes at start up
If you type dxdiag into a run command you will generate a direct x report, which you can save o file and attach here. It will give us details of your graphics card and operating system.
From the log you posted this looks a lot like your graphics card drivers are not up to date. Could you make sure have installed the latest drivers from the manufacturers website?
