Re: Army for Britcon
Yesterday I've had my second and third test match with my ECW Royalist: two losses 21-4 and 19-6 so I had a cunning decision:
no more test match in order not to depress my poor army
Miniatures are already in the hand baggage.
Matteo
PS:
Is it possible for the organizers to contact aiport security in order to advice in advance that people with strange hand baggage (strange = non xray machine can pass trhoug lead) is going to arrive/leave and WE ARE NOT TERRORIST
I remember that once in Helsinky we had some problem with Nicola's baggage: the Police argue that he was triyng to export aegiptian antiquites disquising as miniatures (his army baggage was a small stone statue paid 1euro in egypt)
After some discussions they let us pass but seized the adhesive tape (the one we use in order to have roads) which was considered dangerous to the detector of explosives !!!!!!!!

I've never had any problems with airport security and miniatues in hand baggage - as long as you are expecting to have to show them at security and are smiling it is fine. Telling them it is "toy soldiers" is also a good strategy !MatteoPasi wrote:is it possible for the organizers to contact aiport security in order to advice in advance that people with strange hand baggage (strange = non xray machine can pass trhoug lead) is going to arrive/leave and WE ARE NOT TERRORIST

I say they are toy collectibles. Don't even call them soldiers or wargaming. Usually they think they are neat and want to look at them for fun.madaxeman wrote:I've never had any problems with airport security and miniatues in hand baggage - as long as you are expecting to have to show them at security and are smiling it is fine. Re: Army for Britcon
My funniest experience was returning from Brasil one time. I lived there for 2 years and had painted quite a few figures, but not all of those I took down. I knew the X-ray was going to flag them so I had them packaged at the top of my carry-on. (Granted my carry-on weighed about 50 lbs due to lead.) The security guard of course flagged me and had me open the bag. He was quite impressed with my painted figures that he called over some of the security guards to look at my miniatures. More and more came over. The net result was that I shut down the Sao Paulo international terminal for about 10 minutes because all the guards were over looking at my figures. I wonder how it looked for the other passengers that 20 security guards came over to inspect one passenger's bag. This was pre 9-11, so the look out for terrorism was not as strenuous then.
