As there are two of us in this project at the moment I have to discuss it with Uhu first. Personally I don't like to release unfinished material so I see two options now: either you have to wait for the release of the Hungarian campaign or we may release a Hungarian unit pack when its finished before the campaign itself comes out, with all the icons and the relevant unit values. Either way, I intend to release the icons sooner or later so that they can be used for any other custom Hungarian/German/Russian/Romanian/whatever campaigns. Is that ok?Will you make them available to the rest of us?

Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
First thank you, for this cool tool.
Maybe i am blind...
i search for the camo for the "orginal SS-Units"?
Have you the "orginal SS-Units" as camo too, for this tool?

Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
Rather than releasing the finished units, it'd be cool if you could provide any masks you create. I'd gladly include them in the next release of the app for others to enjoy.
I was hoping some folks would take pity on me and do a couple of unit masks, but there just don't seem to be enough people using this tool, at least at the moment.
Maybe Slitherine will reconsider at some point and get the ball rolling again by releasing their own Afrika Corps, Allied Corps or whatever else. Unfortunately, all Panzer Corps development seems to be stagnant for the forseeable future.
Edit: Ballermann, are you referring to the SE Units the game shipped with? If so, no, I'm afraid I don't have access to that skin. I don't work for (nor know anyone at) Slitherine, so all you get is the skins Flakfernrohr created (and he did a tremendous job, don't you think?). Maybe you can request an approximation from him - flak, what do you say?

Certainly, of course. I understand. I did not realize they were part of a bigger package. Will wait.McGuba wrote:As there are two of us in this project at the moment I have to discuss it with Uhu first. I would be more than happy to let Slitherine use anything that came out of my head and that I did for Panzer Corps. I have said it before, they have free reign over any material created by me.rezaf wrote:Rather than releasing the finished units, it'd be cool if you could provide any masks you create. As for masks, I have made about 15 and when I get just a few more I will release them along with a number of new skins.
RE: Ballerman, there is an ambush skin or two in the new skins that is close in appearance to the the original. All you need do is employ the tool, check the skins on the icons as they appear in the screen. I can probably make another ambush like the original, but these are close.

However, as for masking, if one needs a unit *masked* (not skinned) desperately he can just post here, should be no prob, unless someone wants lots of new masks in a row. Most German units are done anyway, except towed ones. That leaves mostly allied units, plus maybe Italians - dunno if skinning works well on those with their base color....might be worth a try though.
Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
Infantry masks are also needed.
Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
Hey, indeed his userprofile says he was logged in today. Last time I checked (maybe a week ago) it showed December 2011 or something.bebro wrote:I thought Alex just returned and picked up work again?
Someone hinted at a possible imminent return, but didn't know anything substantial at the time.
Welcome back, Rudankort, I guess.
And thanks for the heads up bebro.
You can make masks for Infantry units, too, you know?bebro wrote:Most German units are done anyway, except towed ones. That leaves mostly allied units, plus maybe Italians - dunno if skinning works well on those with their base color....might be worth a try though.

About foreign units, as I mentioned in the masking tutorial, the tricky part is finding a way to make the base icon "colorless". Just grayscaling usually looks sub-par - and you'd have to manually exclude stuff like the insignias.
But there is a way to make it happen - I did it with the soviet tanks, as you can see if you check the BaseIcons directory in the DCS folder.
Essentially, what I did was toying around with the "Curves" tool in Paint.NET until I found a combination that filtered out the green and left the icon grayish.
It ended up a bit on the dark side (the green on the soviet tanks is pretty dark, after all), so I used the Curves tool again, this times for Lumination, and made the icon brighter.
The downside is that the color reduction step sometimes also slightly distorts the base color of other stuff and that, due to the Lumination step, formerly black parts of an icon often end up in a dark shade of gray (and formerly dark gray shaded stuff ends up light gray).
If find, once skinned, the results are totally bearable, though.
You can do what I described with unmodified Paint.NET, but unfortunately, you can't save Curve settings, so you'd have to restore the values each and every time you want to do this.
However, there's a free addon to Paint.NET called Curves+ or something in which you CAN save the settings. I'd recommend it to everyone who tries this with Paint.NET - I don't know what applies to other paint programs.

Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
Rezaf after my personal issues have squared themselves away and I get the the new equipment list for SS-GTPG I WILL HELP YOU AND DWIGHT.
Right now I'm pulling my hair out trying to find time to just edit the SS-GTPG,unforunately.
You and Flak took the immense time and effort to make a tool that will revolutionize unit making/skinning for this community and I know there are people, along with myself, who are extremely gratefull, please don't feel discouraged.
Like I said above,I made a commitment to Nico and I'll fullfill that commitment and then I will give you guys a hand.
I downloaded Paint.Net already and have it installed and once I'm done with the new equipment file I will start knocking out some masks (you're tutorial made it Mongo
simple
) . I just can't right now
Thanks again Rezaf and Flak for making this awesome tool.

I too realized by now that there is not so much activity in the forum which can be a bit discouraging at times but as well I learned on other sites and other forums that on the long run people do come around to appeciate the work of the dedicated and the skilled and maybe even get involved...seems there is a lot of leeching but low feedback from casual players here...
I think its still worth the effort...keep it up

My experience so far is that player made mods are often better than "official" stuff for many games. I am not very happy with the vanilla PC campaign, for example. If they don't release quality stuff the community will. Your tool is a nice example.
If you PM me your email I can send you the unit masks I make for the existing PC units (artillery, AA etc.), as they can be considered finished, so that you can add them to the next version of your tool. However, I can only "grayscale" them which may not be satisfactory.Rather than releasing the finished units, it'd be cool if you could provide any masks you create
No need to feel disappointed at all, this tool is essential for campaign design, just be patient, time will tell.but there just don't seem to be enough people using this tool, at least at the moment.
Is it really a big problem?Maybe Slitherine will reconsider at some point and get the ball rolling again by releasing their own Afrika Corps, Allied Corps or whatever else. Unfortunately, all Panzer Corps development seems to be stagnant for the forseeable future.

This is a great tool rezaf, thanks. I'm real impressed with the quality and detail of the units this thing churns out.
How does the "mix and match" work? From the demo video, did you mean you can combine camo?

Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
I am loving this sprayshop what an awsome tool!!! I was wondering is there any way to create what would look like tree branches? ive seen many pics of german armor with branches and foilage attached to them for more blending in effect and for them to better hide from fighterbombers .

Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
Just do some playing around with Microsoft Paint or any other paint program for a while and you will get there by experimenting how they look on the icons with the tool.

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone!
Btw., hey flakfernrohr, why have you stopped responding to my emails? I hope I haven't offended you in some way.
I have worked on the tool for a bit today, and I'm making some progress in the national insignia issue. I'm not 100% sure if it'll work out for all icons, but it looks very promising for those I tried.
Whether I can pull it off or not, I think I'll try to make aircraft skinnable next. VPaulus, would you be willing to send me the test mask(s) you created for airplanes to save me some time?

No, that only was referring to the option that you can apply any skin to any icon. You CAN "mix" skins, though you'll have to do it manually in paint and then make a new skin from the manipulated image. Check out the SkinGenerator if you haven't already.4kEY wrote:How does the "mix and match" work? From the demo video, did you mean you can combine camo?
Heh, I made a number of animal skins and a series of camouflage skins from google results. If there's any interest, I'll post them as a seperate download - some of them look quite good, but they're not historical in any way, other than the great stuff flakfernrohr created, so I didn't include them in the main download to respect his work. But I don't think he'll be opposed to me just sharing them seperately.Ballermann wrote:Here maybe somebody can use it (Leopard Camo)

Re: Dwight's Camo Sprayshop
I made masks for two units:
- strongpoint, so you can skin bunkers (when saving just name them differently for axis, allies)
- 88 flak36 in both AA and AT mode (note that skinning the 88 will also affect the 128er flak unless you mod its icon)
The masks could probably improved, but as long there aren't any better ones maybe people find them useful. I attached them below plus the base icons.
