UK Rankings are changing

Post by dave_r »

Latest Truth from The BHGS (The Society)

The Rankings have always been the official means of evaluating player supremacy. Recent quantitative and authoritative analysis has proven this. The system will never be changed.

It is The Committee’s role to remind you that it is your duty to attend four Ranking competitions to obtain your Ranking. It is acknowledged that all virtuous Society members should attend more competitions knowing that only their greatest four results will be brought to the attention of The Society.

In August, when The Committee next presents itself to the Society, the Inner Society will present awards to those it deems meritorious through their ascendancy.

All shall pay homage to The Society. All Societies are equal.

An alternative "corporate" version is here:

Following analysis carried out on the rankings it is appreciated that the rankings as they stand are not fit for purpose. It is seen as difficult to obtain a "full" ranking and therefore the rankings as a whole don't portray an accurate reflection of player abilities. Due to the diversity and multitude of rule sets currently attracting tournament players there are only a small percentage of players achieving a full ranking.

In order to solve this issue there will be changes made to how the rankings are calculated. Namely:

The number of tournaments required for a full ranking will be reduced from six to four
This will enable more people to gain a full ranking and hence the Rankings to more accurately reflect each player’s ability

Only a players best four tournaments will count towards the rankings
Will give players an option to try new and different armies without having a detrimental effect on that players ranking

Amend the end point of the ranking year to be following Britcon
Britcon is the biggest and best attended competition of the year therefore awarding the prize at Britcon makes sense

Probably a good thing. As it allows people to experiment with new armies instead of just taking the same boring Bosphorans again and again and again and...oh wait let's have chinese...and a bosphoran...and now a left handed Bosphoran.

Hi Dave

Just a couple of questions:

- when do the new rankings start from?

- which competitions will still be worth more than others?

Thanks
