Are you ready General?

Expect some resistance :)

The more british units bound to your paratroopers, are at least not harassing your troops in the south (yet)!

Two new screens

Post by nikivdd »

First of all, there is finally the new v1.05. If someone would have an issue with GTPG 1 under the new version, let me know.

GTPG 2 is back on track and currently i am betatesting the second biggest scenario of the pack, Balkans.
I had to make a bit of a choice here, since in the original there is no Balkans scenario, so i decided to add it, and script it with a twist.

The original Malta scenario is pretty much undoable, it made me think of a certain 1 deployment hex scenario. So i decided to replace it with one i made some months ago. A scenario has to be fun/playable and not a desperate search where to land troops, which in my opinion is just plain frustrating and ends with endscn 0.

To come back to the Balkans scenario, i decided to add a bit of stuff for Yugoslavia and Greece. For Yugoslavia i added Me 109, Hurricane I, Blenheim I, R35 tanks and cavalry; and for Greece a couple of polish imported fighters. I also decided for the Axis to add some hungarian troops and added more bulgarian troops than in the original. I'm currently in the second test, the first test ended after two rounds lol.
More than likely there will be a third test. That leaves me then with one more scenario, which is, not surprisingly , Crete. I was doubting to add it or not but i think most players expect a Crete scenario, surely after Greece.

I usually don't make predictions when to release smth, but the second pack should be up before the holiday break. For the wonderful Christmas spirit ;).

Last but not least, two brand new screenies from the Balkans scenario.

Great work nikivdd, as usual. I've started up your GTPG 1 campaign and have only one small criticism to bring up. I'm using the
"handpick"version and the first scenario only allows 8 air slots for deployment. I have 28 total core deployment slots, but only 8 air
slots is too few for me. I like having a core army of roughly 60% ground and 40% air. Maybe you could add another deployment
airfield, so we can deploy a larger air force. Or, maybe remove the 3 AUX air units at the southern airfield (the AUX army is
concentrated in the north anyways). That would make 11 air spots available and a more ideal core army in my opinion (the 3
northern AUX air units could change, if needed, to make up for the loss of the southern ones). I know I can have more than 8 air
units and deploy on the next turn, but that's a hassle and they also lose out on a turn. Just a thought for your consideration.

Thanks for the feedback. It didn't occur to me that players would actually start with more than 8 planes.
I'm going to add a few more deployment hexes. Aircraft don't have to be deployed per sé around an airfield.
Could you post the core you picked? Or a screenie? Out of interest.
I have put your recommendation on my to-do list :).

I just started playing this and finished the first scenrio. I destroyed all the forts well before I took all the objectives but the scenario didn't end until I took all the objectives. I got a DV. Is that the way it is suppose to work?

@nikivdd, I apologize for the previous post as it may have been a bit of a "false alarm". Before I even started, I took a quick look
at all the scenarios first to see how they looked and if I saw any immediate problems. Now that I started the campaign, I now realize
that I wouldn't be able to buy my "ideal" core army since the 6400 Prestige didn't go as far as I thought. I was only able to buy 8 air
units anyways and combined it with 17 ground units. I could have gone higher with the planes, but then my ground forces would
have to have been weaker units than I like. So, I'm starting with a 25 core army and will add units during the scenario as I gain
some more Prestige. Again, I apologize for "jumping the gun". 8 air units to begin with should be fine since fielding all 28 units
at the start is kind of difficult with the Prestige available.

Here's my starting core:
5 Gebirgsjager with trucks (I like their 3 movement plus 5 SA value)
5 Pz 38t (decent tank that you can stick with for a while)
5 10.5cm towed artillery with trucks (another decent unit that you stick with a while)
2 8.8cm FlaK 36 AA's with trucks
4 Me 109e fighters
1 Me 110c fighter bomber
2 Ju 87b Stuka dive bombers
1 He 111H2 strat bomber

Nice choice. It was wise to buy some AD too!

Ok, i delete one item from the to-do list ;)

Let's have a closer look at the goals for achieving a DV in the editor:

Image

There are 2 parts you need to fulfil to achieve a DV:
1) All allied flags (read:polish) in primary objectives should be 0, so in other words, your troops need to capture all primary objectives.
2) Number of allied units is equal to 0, and when you look more in detail, no groundstructures (read:strongpoints) can remain.

Both parts form one whole (=DV) with the logical operator AND. So both conditions must be met.

Ofcourse it is far better to translate that into a nicer text, which you see at the start of your mission:
Take all objectives and dismantle every polish strongpoint.

Image

But i must agree, perhaps it should be better to write: Take all primary objectives. (put on my to-do list).
Thank you for your alertness and i hope my post could help you also :).

I think I just didn't read the victory condition correctly. I thought just taking the forts gave you the DV and taking all the objective gave the MV. I mean they only came up on the screen 16 times so it's understandable I would miss them right? :D

lol

A popular user request to the devs is the possibility to review mission goals at all times during gameplay.

@nikivdd, I downloaded GTPG2 and did my same quick overview I did on GTPG1: started the campaign and then used the end scenario
cheat to cycle through the maps. First off, England looks absolutely great and should be an awesome map to play. However, I ran into a
critical problem on two maps that would cause the map area to be black and crash the game (had to alt-ctl-delete to end the game). First
one came up when I took the Malta path (which loaded up properly) and got to Crete. The second came up when I took the Balkans path
and that map would result in the "black screen game crash". I also noticed that neither map would load up in the Editor, as well. Anyways,
I'm still on GTPG1, but I can't wait to get to England and give that map a try. Hopefully, you can get the crash bug worked out.

I did the test of both campaign options. No problems encountered. No GME required normally, everything is stock Panzer Corps.
Because it just occurs with the map (Balkans) which i finished with v1.05 (incl unit placement), so I think in order to play GTPG2, Panzer Corps must be updated to v1.05.
Probably the cause lays in a (few) adjustment(s) in the equipment file which might be responsible for the black screen.

I have a question about the victory condition in scenario 4.
What does the EE partrooper need to do to get a DV? Does it need to end the game on the objective, does it need to be the unit that first captures it or something else?

The paratrooper has to be on the proper hex to get a DV. It's next to the Eben-Emael fortress. (for now it also has a belgian flaggie there)

With the v1.05 there is a new overlay with letters. At least that will be better to mark the right spot. In GTPG 3 (oh no lol) the first mission will also require for a number of troops to position on such a spots but with the letters it is much more clear.

Any problems with prestige sofar ?

You mean besides not having enough to replace the losses from the endless Allied Air Forces? :D

This one is proving to be the toughest so far.

Yeah, i know. But there are a lot of air auxiliaries to start with. It is also necessary to have AD units. At the end of GTPG1 i had 6 fighters in my core and 2 AD units.
