Commanders and Close Combat

Post by robertthebruce »

8 Matches, 4 Commanders in Close Combat for Match at least, Results: 0 Death Commanders.

Somebody Thinks that it´s very hard to kill a General in Colse Combat???

Cheers

We've had plenty of dead Commanders - please don't lower the number below 11 or 12.

I ever had bad relation with the dices :( , it´s very possible that my death rolls for commanders are outside the average.

But I Think that Danger/Benefit balance is absolutely possitive for commanders. All Generals move into close combat in my matches, and that is not a typical behavior for a historical Commander.

As someone who once killed all the opposing Egyptian generals and also lost 3 generals in one game (without losing), I would say that the numbers are enough to give a little danger, while avoiding that just a little bad luck would cripple a flank.

I cannot speak for the designers but the impression I have is that their intention is that you choose between having a general fighting or having it bolstering and improving no-melee CTs and CMTs. Death is not as important as the fact that a general in melee is unavailable till the pursuit ends. And a general in a losing combat against a fast enemy has quite a high probability of dying. In most important combats there will be generals on both sides, so one will lose...

Actually quite historical for the Wars of the Roses & the 100YW - Generals were very cavalier with their lives.
At Towton, for instance, Warwick & Edward IV were both fighting in the frontline for the Yorkists.

That however does not mean I will be using Generals so recklessly in my games

I haven't lost one yet or killed one. Came close several times but always just missed.
