Bayonets
Hi All,
I haven't had much access to the army lists, but am wondering if there is any army that has the majority/all of their closer order foot armed with bayonets?
It strikes me that this would be a very tough army. Am I missing something? Besides base cost??
Am I right in assuming that the best a mounted unit is going to get against a foot unit with Bayonets is 'no advantage/no disadvantage'?
If someone could give me a basic overview of what components of a later army with bayonets would be I'd appreciate it. I don't want the list, just something like:
3 BG's of Cavalry armed with this
1 BG of Dragoons
4 BG's of Infantry armed with this
lots of Artillery.
Just so I can have an idea of what is out there.

What is their cavalry like?
Are Bayonets as good as I think they are or are they going to get wiped out by something I haven't thought of?
Cavalry: determined horse, average, unarmored, impact and melee pistol. One additional BG of superior available.
Musket/bayonet is good, especially with a regimental gun, but an average BG costs 63 points.
They cost 54 points w/o the gun, the same as 1 pike, 5 muskets and 1 regimental gun. The pike/musket/regt gun combination is probably better than 6 musket/bayonets (without gun).

Swings & roundabouts, I have found them very effective with the massed firepower, although, yes IF they lose they are in some trouble. They are +1 poa v mounted for the bayonet, and being shot negates any better armour poa too.
As ever, pick an army you can love even when you lose is always the best advice.

I thought pikes were normally up one POA vs mounted, but bayonets were usually equal?Scrumpy wrote:Swings & roundabouts, I have found them very effective with the massed firepower, although, yes IF they lose they are in some trouble. Me too. I don't see how bayonets are "+" against mounted either in impact or melee?Delbruck wrote:I thought pikes were normally up one POA vs mounted, but bayonets were usually equal?Scrumpy wrote:Swings & roundabouts, I have found them very effective with the massed firepower, although, yes IF they lose they are in some trouble. Mea Culpa, I've been playing Walt, Dan & Kevin too much lately, so the rules get to be blurred.footslogger wrote:Me too. Don't have the rules handy, but I recall that bayonets serve to negate almost every close action POA out there, but I don't think they ever give a + POA themselves. So they are never at a + POA against anything.Me too. I don't see how bayonets are "+" against mounted either in impact or melee?
