Purchasing Foreign Units in Campaign

Post by monkspider »

Is there anyone else out there that would really enjoy purchasing foreign units during the campaign? This was something that could be done in Panzer General 2 (and I think the first game as well) that was pretty neat. Although not especially useful, it was still fun to have a say, some Finnish Ski Troops, Spanish Infantry, an Italian Tank and some Romanian artillery. It did add a bit of flavor and was a fun challenge to try to keep this international coalition going throughout the game. From a gameplay perspective, there are some units that would be legitimately nice to have, like the Elite Italian infantry, and some Italian fighters are quite strong. I can't really think of any downsides to having the option at least! Anyone else agree? :D

I agree, I believe you could in limited siuations purchae "allies " into your core in the original PG, Bulgarians, for example when you were in the huge "Greek" scenario

I liked how in the Greek and France scenario's in original PG you could purchase British units as the allies in 2 player. Its very very tough to do in PzC. Often you have allied nations flags in the purchase screen but no way to use them.

I completely forgot about this aspect of the "mercenary" additions to your forces. I put my vote in my implementation. I think it'd be enjoyable.

But adding these units as optionally as "core" might be interesting...Though the upgrade path should not be blocked so it would be necessary to allow cross country upgrading (for example to Tiger II "german" later on)

Is this hardcoded?

I mean, is the campaign hardcoded to having core units from a single flag only (Germany)?
