Special abilties of units
I struggles in deciding about getting Grenadiers or Pioniers, then I remembered that the Pioniers are ignoring fortification values.
Im not sure I m able to recall all the special abilities of units and I havent found this information comprehensively listed, so hopefully this thread will help.
Pioniere: ignore fortification values and are thus immune to rugged resistance (or whatever its called)
Gebirgsjäger: move at normal speed in mountain terrain
Fallschirmjäger: can be transported by aircraft and dropped in a landing zone
Brückenpioniere: when placed on a river tile, other units can pass as if there is a bridge
Recon: they can move-stop-move in one turn, every stop costs 1 movement point
Artillery 1.: suppresses enemy units until the next ground attack on this enemy unit is performed (air attack doesnt remove the suppression)
Artillery 2.: artillery can fires automatically on enemy units, right before they are attacking nearby friendly units
Fighter: automatically counterfire on enemy aircraft, before they attack an adjecent friendly aircraft or ground unit, but only once per turn
StratBomber 1.: they can suppress enemy units like Artillery 1.
StratBomber 2.: they reduce enemy units ammo & fuel, not sure on the conditions
StratBomber 3.: stratbombers can render enemy cities and airfields useless for resupply and spawning units, until the enemy repairs them
StratBomber 4.: they can also reduce the prestige of the enemy, if you bomb an opponents victory hex
Submarines: they have an evasion probability when attacked
I d also like to use this thread to suggest new special abilities,
eg for the recon unit:
As of now they are pretty vulnerable to a counterthrust.
So I d like them to be
1. immune to ambushes
2. have a chance of withdrawl like the submarines have, when attacked.
It would fit the recon description and especially would make those units much more survivable in the later scenarios full of heavy tanks and so on.
edit: StratBombers & fighters completeted with help from Horseman

Don't forget fighters can also protect ground units from air attack in the same way they protect bombers
And the "Presitige thing" about strat bombers=if you bomb a victory hex then your opponent loses prestige, they can also reduce cites and airfields leaving them unusable until an infantry unit moves in and "repairs them"
Nice thread and good idea about the recons

I'm afraid that with this additional rule recons can become a serious pain in the butt in MP games. With their recon movement they can easily sneak to all kinds of places, and if they also begin to evade your attacks... As for immunity to ambush, they already have it - just move in phases and you will never run into ambush. This costs you extra moves, yes, but this is exactly what makes the decision less straightforward.
Ok, understand the ambush, about the evasion:
Well as recon they should see this monster panther group coming their way and not just get slaughtered...
Maybe only evasion ability against tanks and tracked AT (maybe discriminate by "tracked" units? would that leave out tracked art as well?), is that possible?
So there are ample ways to counter recons (eg with other recons, infantry, any kind of arty, air force aso.)
Just not that tank group rushing in from 6 tiles away in a massive dust cloud, surprising a recon unit... (infantry can only travel 3, thats ok with me)

Yes, they are explained in the tutorial, but if you look at the units in-game, there isn't any mentioning of their special abilities (only the attack, defense, movement, etc. values) !
They should be listed in the unit information somewhere.
Or are they already there and I'm only to dumb and blind to find them ???

All of the unit types are described on the purchase screen. E.g. what a fighter does, what artillery do. It does not go in to unit specific details such as bruidges and enginners so does not give 10% of the info but a big part of it. Finding somewhere and some way to display this info would be good. It's just working out the best way to do it.
Some are. The Gebirgsjagers list movement type as Alpine, Bruckenpioniere as Bridged.manie_de wrote:They should be listed in the unit information somewhere.

But I agree with you. It would make sense to have units abilities displayed in units stats page.
