Thick Forrests

Post by TheGrayMouser »

Are thick forrest hexes truly meant to be impassible to ALL units? ( set at -100 movement in that data file) Seems odd that alpine troops can scale high peaks but cant take a stroll thru the Mirkwood. Or I suppose it was a design decision to make impassible hexes...

Infantry next to for one turn. Can enter the next.

Not sure about engineers as I think that was changed.

I'd like to see Non-mobile AT including non transport AT's to enter. That way they can Ambush.

There are four movement types that can enter thick forests.
Foot, Alpine, Horse, Bridging.

The problem is, most of these movement types usually have transports attached to them.
If you have a transport, you can no longer enter terrain that the transport cannot enter.

Is it not possible for the unit to abandon its motorized transport and continue on foot? For the life of me I couldn't seem to find that command. Seemed odd that I had to drive my unit around a thick forest for several turns when I would think I could just say, "dismount boys were on foot from here" and cut through the forest, minus motorized.

Only way to currently discard transport is by embarking on to an air transport at an airfield.

OR

Go to a friendly city and 'upgrade' to the NO TRANSPORT option.

Currently.... ;) Maybe in the future it will be possible to just ditch motorized transport in the field?

But by that token, should bridging units be allowed to enter those thick forests? Aren't they hauling lots of bridging equipment around?

Agree - In fact, they should have limited off-road movement as well.
