What's new in Panzer Corps?
This thread will list features that are brand new to the Panzer General series, so people do not confuse them for bugs.
The list will start small, but items will be added to it slowly over time so we don't overwhelm anyone and discourage reading with the dreaded 'WALL OF TEXT'.
If anyone has any questions about specific items, feel free to ask for a more detailed explanation.
1. Railroads and train transport movement.
2. River boats!
3. Air defense units are incapable of ambushing ground units. (Units with bracketed values only)
4. Tactical bombers, with or without fighter escort, cannot initiate an ambush/unexpected encounter. (Units with bracketed values only)
5. Truck transport interferes with normal movement (mountain infantry with opel blitz transport can no longer enter mountain terrain).
6. Moving adjacent to enemy air units previously hidden by the fog of war does not cause a player's unit to stop. Only direct contact with another air unit will cause a player air unit to stop and be ambushed/engage in an unexpected encounter.
7. Deployment hexes campaign maps are disabled after a certain amount of units are deployed (allows for a flexible core larger than your deployment limit).
8. Multipurpose units. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTKHP2Oo ... age#t=201s
9. Winning a scenario is no longer directly tied to Victory Hexes (although they still can be).

Well, except they can slide up riversVPaulus wrote:Full hex. They are like any other naval unit.TheGrayMouser wrote:I suppose I could wait til Monday but... i see from the manual that rivercraft are a class of unit? Do these river monitors/gunboats take up a full hex , or , kinda like planes do they allow a land unit to be in the same hex?

My understanding of an ambush is when a ground unit runs into a hex occupied by an unseen enemy force. Does point 3 mean air defense units will not fire at ground units that run into them ?... If so do they still fire back at ground units that attack them normally ?3. Air defense units are incapable of ambushing ground units.
4. Tactical bombers, with or without fighter escort, cannot initiate an ambush/unexpected encounter.
I also don't really understand point 4. Does this mean tactical bombers like mosquito and Bf 110 will not fire on fighters that run into them ?
It's slightly tricky, and I actually forgot a key detail. This measure was put in place to 'protect' units that would not benefit from an ambush encounter. For example, a King Tiger moving into the Fog of War who happens to come across a transport truck that blocks its attempted move is not 'ambushed' by the truck transport. Instead, no combat occurs, and the King Tiger's turn is over (moved + opportunity to fire is lost or was already used)
A battleship that randomly stumbles into a transport ship does not fire, it simply is stopped.
A FW-190A that runs into a bomber with a bracketed value (B-17 or Lancaster) is simply stopped.
An 88mm FlaK Gun set to air defense mode will not 'ambush' an American tank that runs into it.
However in your example, the Mosquito and the 110 will engage in a combat encounter because their attack value is not bracketed [].
Also, when attacked in a normal encounter, these bracketed units will respond normally. The 88mm FlaK in air defense mode will still return fire on an attacking unit.
Ain't that a problem? A line of trucks can stop tanks from breaking through...For example, a King Tiger moving into the Fog of War who happens to come across a transport truck that blocks its attempted move is not 'ambushed' by the truck transport. Instead, no combat occurs, and the King Tiger's turn is over (moved + opportunity to fire is lost or was already used)
... yet.Razz1 wrote:No destruction of RR or bridges.

We have some very unique ideas about how to approach this, possibly with destructible terrain or even a neutral faction bridge 'unit'. Once we perfect the functionality of such a feature, the game play options open up significantly. Imagine scenarios where protecting a bridge is a secondary objective, or one where all of your objectives are securing all the bridgeheads along a major river (and destroying any of them you think you won't be able to hold!)
