Infantry transport icons mockup

Post by adherbal »

Here's one possible way to display the transportation type on the infantry icon (bottom left corners). It's fairly subtle but should be clear enough when you look for it. Any thoughts?

Why dont we just show them behind the main image at full size - like in CEAW?

Looks nice to me and is very clear.

Alex, doesn't like that... so we don't. :wink:

I also like this solution BTW...subtle but clear enough.

Well actually, I told you long ago that I don't object to this as long as it is optional. However, both me and Lukas share concerns that making all possible infantry and guns icons look well on all possible transports is quite a difficult task. Also, three unit icons in one hex might be too much.

Let us use this approach, small in the left corner, it looks ok.

Looks like that Jerry has a yellow jerry-can sarge...

I would like to check how it woudl look with the full size icons but I know we dont have much time. Can we do this as a temporary fix and relook at it if we have time.

It may work for infantry, but the problem is that some of the artillery guns are so big there really isn't room for big transports in the same icon. Even if we do manage to make it fit, it'll be quite a clutter.

Transports go behind so guns sit on top and the icon does not get any bigger :)

I suggest if you want them behind I would make the truck slightly smaller and a bit further to the back more into the right top corner. Like this all shadows are destroyed and the arty looks like on top of the trucks in most cases.

I think for infantry only this could've worked, granted the scene is specifically set up to work with a truck in the background. But for guns of various scales and shapes it's just going be a mess, making the overall icon less pretty and recognisable.

If you guys are convinced the tiny lower corner transport is the way to go, I guess it's not that bad, but I don't agree with it.
I don't think this icon belongs on the game board. At all. The tiny icon skews the whole feeling of the scale for unit size, and the full size transport as a backdrop makes the unit appear way too busy and crowded.
This is where that icon should go, and I added the black cross as a 'leader' placeholder.

I assume the yellow ammo icon is to signify unit is getting low on ammo? I've been waiting for a warning like this for a while now, still keep getting surprises in my battles due to these over-sights. It's especially annoying on large maps where memory does not serve well.

I suppose we can color code it to at least 3 levels.

Black = no ammo
Red = 1 ammo
Blue = 2 ammo.

Or we could add even more levels, using the color Yellow & Green, maybe even White too.
