After drawing some of my legions out of the line even though I am certain their generals (who were 2 hexes away) were yelling out I wouldnt do that, the inevitable slaughter seems to have kept the rest of the army in place where the Gauls have fallen on our swords and are now dieing in droves. Getahorses enthusiasm to reduce his armies payroll is greatly appreciated and another turn or two will hopefully bring peace and quiet to Gaul again.
Lacking a secret weapon equivalent to the hairy chested wife, we were forced to resort to the stratagem of sacrificing a number of our gallant warriors (but mostly our gallant lowland allies) to draw the Romans out of position in order to allow our remaining troops to catch the Romans out of position and send them on their way to Hades. Our gallant departed will be remembered by poodle sacrifices and corn popping as the remaining Romans lead by Gaius Poodiclese flee the field.

Gaius Poodiclese: 31/30 (4562/9000)

I'll take on ol' Gaius as my choice for round 2.
So now Maximus can post who he'd like to fight. Then we see who gets next choice.

450 for the winners vs 400 for the losers (your army can never be smaller than 400)

The tracking points (450, 400, 350, 300) is for victory. First one to 600.

So, bottom will probably choose to fight bottom and that will leave the top dogs to fight amongst themselves. 50 pts difference isn't too horrible right now

That was why I thought as well to have some sort of ally rule. The low end armies (always 400) could recruit someone to help them take on one of the top dogs (with inherent risks and rewards).

Ah I get it, so if I am at 450 v-points and loan an ally 50 and they lose , my own v-points will drop to 400?

Yes! But you start fresh each time, or increase if you went up in points.

That was the idea. You still fight with the 450. The ally you send to your buddy is in addition to your points. We can all agree to send an ally (always lots of able bodies and always someone keen to lead them). But if your buddy loses, then you and he drop 50 and if you, the ally general, happens to die in the battle, you drop an additional 50. That was my thinking on it, anyway.

Kind of like: "Ah, well...I didn't mean for you to charge into that pike phalanx but..ahem..."

If your buddy wins, you gain 50.

Maybe the ally thingie makes it too chaotic, or too easy to hit 600? Let me know what you guys think on it. I don't see you having to post ahead of time that you are bringing an ally along, but again, how many points? Is 50 too small or just enough extra to make it kinda interesting? Basically, you have to include an ally general in your list (and who cares if he's a Roman momentarily dressed as a hairy chieftain!) and you gain the extra points. Kinda tempting to let that ally lead!!

Maybe for round 2 all battles should be set to 500 to allow for this.

I like how you are not penalized for losing (as far as your army strength goes). I noticed Peter is using the same idea (sort of) in his new campaign.

But maybe the potential to fight as an ally and nab a quick 50pts will make this more interesting. To ally or not to ally...can you afford not to???

Comments welcome. Let's get the Round 2 choices all set and then we can decide if you guys would like to try the ally idea and see how it works and see how many we can "accidentally" kill off!

450 for both

We can consider adding in use of allies in round 3 and see how it muddles things up.

Anyone at 550 pts care to send me themselves as an ally??? ehehehe

But it could be tempting for the 2nd or 3rd placers to offer an ally to the first choicer of round 3 ... or ... for the first placer to offer an ally to someone to take on 2nd or 3rd...
