I think the key is to charge with the cav and then follow up with the infantry in the manuever phase, using generals to double move if possible.
This works a little better in theory than practice. I've often found that the enmy LH doesn't move far enough to give you double moves.

The problem often is your mounted outrun the infantry. The enemy LH return to start shooting the mounted but itself. You want to charge with your mounted to avoid the risk of a disr then frag. now you really are unsupporterd.

This often argues for MF in 8s as it can keep up easier. or a MF bow that can stay within firing range.

If you are disciplined you can prevent the shooty army from taking you apart. But its hard in time limits.

rememberr you need to move fast so you can get enough turns in, to get the enemy back board edge into play.

Didn't want to make that sound down.

What it practically means is you get a good chance for the enemy camp and 1-3 BGs.

The LH player learned to scoot out of the way quicker and has to become clever.

As you say it represents history reasaonably well, but how doo you make it interesting in game terms.

A Pecheneg ally? There's 6 BGs of LH (Plus your 1 BG of list LH).
I could take them all as protected cav for max firepower.

Thanks to Jean Luc for pointing out that I'd been asked a question! Had missed it, sorry.

Anyway, Domblas, here is my list for what it is worth:
C-in-C IC - - - - - - 1 80 80
Sub-commanders TC - - - - - 3 35 105
1 Armoured cavalry Cv Armoured Superior Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 18 72
2 Armoured cavalry Cv Armoured Superior Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 18 72
8 Armoured cavalry Cv Armoured Superior Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 18 72
9 Armoured cavalry Cv Armoured Superior Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 18 72
10 Armoured cavalry Cv Armoured Superior Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 18 72
11 Light cavalry Cv Unprotected Average Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 10 40
12 Light cavalry Cv Unprotected Average Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 10 40
3 Light cavalry LH Unprotected Average Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 10 40
5 Light cavalry LH Unprotected Average Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 10 40
6 Light cavalry LH Unprotected Average Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 10 40
7 Light cavalry LH Unprotected Average Undrilled Bow Swordsmen 4 10 40
4 Slav foot Mob Unprotected Poor Undrilled - 6 2 12

Hmmm... formatting not great, hope you can read it. It did well largely because it had more Cv than the shooty cav armies that it met. The five sup were good and the unprotected Cv gave a bit extra strike force. The latter love finding flanks, though you have to be careful as they can be a bit of a glass hammer. Even the mob had chances to come out to play on occasions.

regards,
Graham

Oh, the figures... nothing special

To be honest there were Renaissance Russians (pistols not tooooo obvious), Huns, Sassanid levy - a right dog's breakfast.
