Hi charging LF

Post by mceochaidh »

I have a question regarding charge distance of HI charging LF. HI is 2 hexes away from a LF javelin. The HI charges and the LF evades its usual distance. The HI does not stop on the hex the LF was in, but continues an additional hex (charging a total of 3 hexes) to attack another LF BG facing away. It hits in the rear and routs the LF in the subsequent mele. Is this usual in that a HI can exceed its normal movement in a charge against evaders? Is the charge distance variable? If so, is there is limit in terms of hexes?

All charging units recieve a variable addition or minus to their distance. It is possible for a unit to not move its full distance and I believe they can exceed their movement allowance by 2. In general when I calculate evade distances to keep my troops safe I assume a +0 to +2 modifier to the charge. I haven't seen units evade less than their full movement unless hindered by other units or terrain.

Cheers,

I try to keep my lights within 2 hexes of the main battle line, that way they can run behind and if its a big follow up the enemy crashes into my heavies out back

Evaders can exceed the mvoement allowance by a lot, same for chargers. If the computer controls your units, they may make multiple turns and do all kinds of things. Some times the stop by a unit and get hit in the rear. Other times in similar situations, they may make a left then a right turn and move twice their movement or more. It is pretty unpredictable. Keeping your lighst within 2 hexes of your battle line is a very good idea.
