Hmm - I'm not sure how to proceed here. Basically it's going into a DirectX system call with entirely correct setup values and then exploding. My guess is that it is caused by bad driver interactions with the windows font manager. I will try and put together a version quickly that sidesteps using this call entirely and see if that will get you running.

Thanks for helping us find this ugly issue. We'll patch this in for everyone in the first patch.
I dropped a new ZIP into the same place which contains temp replacements for the real files. This means you won't get debug spew running all the time. You can also turn off the SAFEMODE tweak in your user.txt file too.
