DONE.

I almost, almost feel sorry for you. This new army is much improved, although I am sad to say that camels didn't make the cut (it was a close decision, though).

Grumbly, I can't believe you haven't brought the camels twice running. I mean what'ss the point of Seleucids without elephants and camels? It only leaves cretins, archers with gigantism, tin monkeys on armoured donkeys and the ever hilarious rubber pike clowns.

Well, I did bring all of the the unarmed mass-levies...

It's pretty much the same army, but the elephants and the auto-anarchy cataphracts were swapped out for much more infantry, and my army now has 58 break points.

Oh by all means. I suggest password = nocigar (as in 'close, but...')

Post a challenge whenever you like. I might be a bit erratic this evening mind but I should get a couple of turns in.

It's up now in challenges. I am going to be a little erratic the next day or two as well, but I'll get in the turns when I can. ;)

Somebody, anybody, pleeeeease fix anarchy. Paisley was absolutely surrounded, on the verge of defeat, when instead of our lines meeting as they were supposed to, the following happened:

Elite companion cavalry charge head first, alone, into his pike line. Wonderful.

Random pike units charge out of line, engaging alone and are annihilated and currently routing.

Some of my medium foot that were flanking decided to simply charge and engage skirmishers, bringing them now within range of Paisley's HF that they're supposed to be going around.

This is so infuriating it's not even funny anymore; elite units charging alone head on into a pikeline for no apparent reason, a handful of pike units charging out from their superior position all alone and getting annihilated, and now MF deciding that no, they don't want to flank, they want to anarchy charge.

I still hope to win, but it's going from definite crushing defeat for Paisley, to me being behind the ball and in fear of another close defeat. what is the point of me making any plans if the most elite units still decide to charge head on into pike lines repeatedly, random heavy pike units just charge out alone away from the formation and are instantly swarmed and killed, and thorakitai MF can't flank because oh look they want to charge the pikeline every time.

I assume the Swiss are doing the same thing. I am not having the Anarchy charge problem
as much as earlier, but I took your advice and use 4 generals in the front line. I also try keep LF/LH in front of my lines.

When Grumbly says 'completely surrounded' he means he had some lights in my rear... but the anarchy he suffered from was just appalling. Quite honestly it could hardly have been worse. Spoilt the game. I'd rather have crushed his pathetic forces in a fair fight. Normally I would laugh and mock relentlessly but quite honestly this was ridiculous.

Pantherboy (who else?) has recorded the first win against my Swiss, employing longbow spam with a healthy dose of wooded terrain and a wholly unreasonable amount of skill.

And the second (oh, the shame! Two defeats in one day...) Neil123's collection of vagabond mercenaries who successfully held a ridgeline and launched a counter attack shot in by longbows that snatched the win.

Well I just finished a match which my Swiss Beat TheGreyMouser's early German army. It was close, very close. The turning point was a battle on his left flank that when I routed 1 unit 3 or 4 others routed and the flank collapsed. It was a great game. Very close. I still think a late republican roman army full of elites and superior will beat the swiss. Hopefully I will get to try that at some point.

No, the Swiss weren't having the same anarchy problems, for the following reasons:

They have no MF

They have no cavalry

They are all superior and their front line is moving forward; my pikeline is stationary and some of it is average. If you are the approaching army, you are the one who enters within the 2 hex range needed for the anarchy test. Then you end your turn, and the stationary opponent gets the anarchy test and his line is ruined. Your opponent does not suffer it because you don't get anarchy after you have already moved your maximum alotted distance.

EDIT: It's alright though; this game looks like it's going to be the third Swiss defeat,. Picture, if you will, thousands of swiss pole-dancers doing their best to flee, but falling over one another because my army has a vice-like encirclement of their position. Also, imagine one swiss crossbowman trying to get my camp, which is surrounded by massed levies who are about to punch him to death because they apparently don't have any weapons.

cant be possible, there are no Swiss left to defeat - I slaughtered the lot (as evidence for no Swiss survivors I cite the lack of propaganda report at the start of this thread!). You are obviously just fighting the old, underage and infirm....Typical actions of the false Pope. I think its time I invaded your territories and bring them back into the Holy see.

I'm mulling over the battle write up...

Grumbly's propoganda is much better than mine. I spent ages looking for his units that had surrounded me and all I saw was routing light foot and a couple of cavalry skulking behind some rocky outcrops hoping they wouldn't be noticed.

Having heard of the alleged Swiss invincibility a French Ordonnance under the command of His Majesty the King of France is marching to the borders in order to teach those unruly mountain folk some rules of good manner and to re-establish the authority of the Catholic Church!

Bah the Swiss pulled through. I still think they're a one trick pony army that the Seleucids can easily crush; RoR time period is better and anarchy is evil! GG
