This statement appears in Help:
To support a friendly battle group in combat a commander needs to be with a battle group or adjacent to it.
Does a commander add any PoAs? I can't see any mention of this in the charts.
Presumably this is a reference to cohesion, rally and complex move tests which are the only areas that commanders influence BGs?
In cohesion testing does a BG get an additional +1 for being adjacent to a commander as well as the +1 for being in command range?
This, also from Help:
The closer a battle group is to a commander the more supported it will feel.
Is there a quantifiable advantage to a BG being two hexes away from a commander, rather than the maximum distance (three from a troop, five from a field and eight from an inspired)
Commanders in combat.

The unit the general is with gets a quality increase for re-roll purposes.
It and adjacent units are in command radius. The command radius is reduced when the general is in combat - it is not an additional bonus.
If you are in command range there is no additional benefit to being closer (as far as i know!)

I'm probably being incredibly thick here but I'm finding it difficult to get a coherent view of exactly how the mechanics of combat work. I know it is not absolutely necessary to know this in order to play but I feel that the help files and the onscreen information are a bit mis-matched.
The Help files on Attacks deals in % with no reference to re-rolls, whereas the verbose summary deals in dice rolls (and only the last section is visible for more than a few seconds)
I can't speak for anyone else but I do feel that an explanation of the die-rolls, re-rolls etc would be extremely useful. Also, I was not aware of any of the points that you raised in you post; they are not documented AFAIK.

I assume the unit "the general is with" means the BG which includes the general, not one he is adjacent to and hence which benefits from his bonus for Cohesion Tests.iainmcneil wrote:The unit the general is with gets a quality increase for re-roll purposes.

I assume the reduction in command radius is only if the BG which includes the general is in combat with an adjacent enemy BG, not when he is adjacent to a BG which is in combat. (The TT rules where a commander is not permanently attached to a BG, and where he has a separate decision about whether to fight in the front rank of that BG when it is in combat, seem much more elegant than the PC version although I can see where it would have been a challenge to handle this simply in the PC game UI.)

I don't think combat rerolls are related to commanders. The BG quality determines the rerolls - so a superior rerolls any '1's & an elite any '1's & '2's I think. If you have the complex melee results switched on you can see this in the format, for say 4 hits being rolled for, 5, 3, 1r 3, 4 where the 1 got re-rolled to a 3.
Sorry if I've misintrepreted any of this.

BGs includng a commander will re-roll as one grade higher, e.g. a superior BG including a commander would re-roll 1s and 2s for combat only assuming it is consistent with the TT rules..petergarnett wrote:I don't think combat rerolls are related to commanders.
