If the problem is it is related to your virus checker or firewall we can't do much about it aother than try and find a work around. It's not a game issue at all. We'll do what we can but it may not be possible for you to fix it without removing the offending software. You might want to talk to the provider of your virus checker/firewall as it is them that is causing the problem not the game :)

I'm having the same problem detailed in the OP. :(

For the past few day, I haven't been able to connect to multiplayer at all, it just hangs at the connecting.. notice. I do not have any anti-virus programs or firewall activated, and I've made sure the program and all of it's relative .exes are running under admin mode.

Please follow me on this and no other threads or you will cross paths on information and just make a bad situation work.

1) Multiplayer needs http access like a web page so if you can access the internet then the game should work. There are no ports to open or close if you can open web pages normally through your browser.

2) The program the access the internet is called fognet.exe and that is the program that is being blocked by your firewall.

3) There are firewall program and there are anti-virus programs. An anti-virus program is not a firewall so you need to be more specific when answering any questions e.f. There is Norton Anti-Virus. There is Noton Internet Secuity. Norton Anti-virus does not have a firewall. Norton Internet Security includes a firewall and an Anti-virus program. What packages precisely do you have and the editions e.g 2010. Then I may be able to give you the exact menu options to take.

4) Turn on only have ONE firewall on and we help you can make that work. Turn off the others (still tell me what they are).

5) The game works by default the most popular firewalls without any changes being required by the user so you must have modified a setting now or in the past that is stopping fognet from working so setting the firewall to its default setting may be the fix. This is not try for old or out of date firewall software.

I bought the game on release, after that i have been able to play about 3 multiplayer battles. I have done nothing to my firewall and the norton program is off, you realy need to look at this because multiplayer is what the game is all about, i even bought 2 games at the time so i could play with a friend...im starting to be a little angry that the multiplayer is not working as it should!.

A few questions to try and gain some traction on these problems:

1: Am I correct in saying that you all have been able to play sometimes, and not at other times?
2: When you cannot play MP, are you still able to view the slitherine.com website?

The way that the multiplayer is set up was designed to be as foolproof as possible in terms of firewalls and routers - it basically just connects to the web in the normal way - so it is very unusual that you are having issues, and we want to try and work out why.

Cheers

Yes sometimes there is no problem connecting to multiplayer. But most of the time as i press the multiplayer-button at the menu it just hangs there trying to connect, in my case i cant even cancel and play solo games without pressening crlt-alt-del and then shut the whole game down. I have noticed when i do this and look at the processes that there are several fognet.exe running at the same time and it looks like this. fognet.exe *32 all other programs that are running dont have the *32 exept kbd.exe *32. And i am always online and able to go to slitherine.com website.

If you can post your system specs that would be very helpful. If the process isn't closing, then that could certainly be an issue. If you reboot and then immediately try and connect what happens (a full restart of the machine, obviously).

Am I right in saying that all the people having issues are running Windows 7? It could be an issue with software updates happening which cause issues for the networking subsystem. But narrowing it down to a single OS might help to find a solution.

Cheers
