automated map generator!
Hi folks!
What about an automated map generator!?
You can configure width and height; decide if want to have cliff, hill, field, orchard, road, tree, hedge, swamp, etc. in percentage and automatically it will be generated!
You can predefine, if want to have a main river or lake, and so on..
What do you think?

Maps are so easy to make that, by itself I don't think it would be worth it. However, in conjunction with a random battle generator, well that would be a very different story and something I would like to see very much. I was going to raise this myself in a thread, so this looks like agood opportunity to do so now.
It would add huge longevity to, not only this first release, but to all the battlepacks that must surely be forthcoming. Much as I like playing historical battles, it would be great to play battles where you do not know what the oppostion is going to be exactly nor the terrain in which the battle will be fought. Here's hoping!

Sounds great!keithmartinsmith wrote:We are not planning an automated map genorator for the Army Builder/Rise of Rome but we are planning to include 100+ pre-built maps to select from. Keith
Btw, what is an "army builder?" I have read several posters requesting this but cant fathom what it might be , especiailly considering how flexible the editor is in changing unit stats etc.
enough..

I think that will be enough!

We can copy and paste it in our folders and then change it!

I agree that 100 maps is a good start. I'm assuming there will be the ability to post additional maps here at the forum (I'm new, so don't yet know all of what is/isn't available).
Battle generator / army builder would be good IMHO. It could be set up similar to other miniatures game where the different nationalities have "eligible" unit types, but no guarantee as to which or how many might be available. For simplified example, you might have a middle eastern army with very few heavy cav, above average number of medium cav, average number of lt cav, few heavy foot/guard infantry and many light foot spearmen as eligible units. So with some randomization, you may or may not get the heavy cav, and if you do, you won't look like a Sarmation HC Only army. You'll likely get a good number of both above ave. medium cav and light foot spearmen, but based on the dice roll, the mix could change. Each army could have a few basic formations based on their nation's abilities, and these could be modded by the system depending on whether they were attacking, defending, or balanced, and whether they were a balanced line, heavy with one or the other flank, etc.
Of course, nothing is difficult for the person who doesn't have to do it!
