Jtrillodmp with Hafside,
defeated
Maeglyr with Carthaginians

54-24

A classic battle fought in an extended formation, with infantry in the centre and cavalry on the flanks, in which the Berbers demonstrated the greater flexibility of their army and the superiority of their light units, as well as their veteran spearmen in the front line.

Rosedelio (Persian) defeats rockmanbob123 (Timurid) 56-4

The Persian sparabara and Immortals had enough rough ground to hold and win a shootout against the Timurid horse archers.

Rosedelio (Timurid) defeats rockmanbob123 (Persian) 50-19

The Timurid horse archers were able to move around and shoot down the Persian cav before flanking the sparabara hiding in the rough ground.

This should be my last game. Thanks for Maeglyr for hosting!

#7 The Fate of Iran
Chris Townsend defeated Solemnace with both the Timurids (61 to 36) and the Persians (a narrow 60 to 55).

The appropriately sandy terrain was dominated by a large stream between the two armies, with the Persians able to deploy their bowmen on the elevated banks on their side, and still have a few units left for a cavalry reserve.

As the Timurids, I opted for the direct approach, organizing fire power (handgunners, best equipped cavalry, archers and artillery on my own right flank hills to blast my way across the stream with a few irregulars to protect the guns, some archers in a central enclosure and a body of cavalry to threaten any Persians that tried to advance on the other flank. I did get across, but then found I had to recross to deal with the Persian centre that had counter attacked in the middle, eventually getting to my guns and archers. In the end, the ability to bleed cavalry from the unengaged flank into the central fight faster than the Persians could shift their infantry probably won the battle.

Solemnace's Timurid plan made much more creative use of his greater mobility and the reduced LOS rules. He sent skirmishers (horse and infantry) wide around my left flank, making me anticipate the main attack there. He then sent his main force (entirely cavalry) wide around my right flank, and was able to cross the stream in force before I could organize a defence. Fortunately, I was able to eventually pick off the skirmishers and gradually reinforce my make shift line perpendicular to the stream. Luck went my way - Solemnace's plan really deserved to win.

Both good games.

#1 The Holy Eternal City
Overwhelming hegemony of the Pope against the Emperor. Gold and steel resisted the pilums, and even the Praetorians had to bow before the Holy See. Definitely the most unbalanced derby in the League!

#3 Time Crusade

Chris Townsend Somehow managed to defeat Maeglyr in both sides of this mirror match between Crusaders and the Syro-Canaanites.

The map was nicely sandy with a large central area of enclosures on the Crusader side, with a hill to their right and mixed terrain to their left. The Syro-Canaanites had their own hill opposite the Crusader hill, plus a big hill in their centre that never saw any fighting.

As the Crusaders, I chose to defend the enclosures with spearmen and pavisier, and occupy the hill with archers and cross bowmen, sending my central reserve of Turcopoles to counter the chariot attack on my left. The Syro-Canaanaites attacked everywhere. I lost the central gap between the enclosures, but successfully destroyed the force attacking my right hand hill, and eventually managed to get my infantry moving on my left. Result - my Crusaders won 60 to 31.

With a similar force, Maeglyr choose to advance out of the enclosures (which, often being downhill, can be a double edge sword if spearmen are asked to counterattack from an enclosure). I again defended my hill, lost the centre, and my chariots eventually triumphed on my right flank. Result - my Syro-Canaanites won 60 to 47.

Tremendous credit to Maeglyr for choosing to attack on both sides of the mirror.
