Division B

Swuul Egyptian 664-571 with Assyrian allies beat ulysisgrunt Roman 105-25 with Numidian allies 60-55

Talk about a slugfest! Egyptians decided to focus on their right flank, and neutralise the large Roman cavalry contingent. Egyptian mounted troops, missile troops and some spears accomplished the task, gaining a good lead early on. Meanwhile the Egyptian center and left bravely fell back in front of the legionares, hoping the Egyptian flankers would come to their aid in time. The legionares however eventually catched the egyptian main line. and the egyptians folded like an egyptian spearwall, nearly winning the battle for Rome. The flankers were racing back, missile troops shooting and throwing everything, and the some crucial flank charges were able to rout enough romans to just tip the scales before the rest of the romans had time to turn back and help the flanked troops (and some of the roman cavalry which had ran off the field made comeback to the field, but happily (for the egyptians) they did not have time to affect the outcome)).

Thank you for a very nice game! I now know the definition for the word "slugfest"!

Div A

Triarii Roman 199BC-106BC with Spanish (Iberian)
defeats
Captainwaltersavage Carthaginian (Hannibal in Italy) 216-203 with Samnite

Score 52-27

A tough fight where the Romans got up a hill courtesy of their slightly superior velites and ground through the Carthaginian left and centre before a large Carthaginian cavalry force could negotiate rough terrain and a hill to intervene.

Thanks to CWS for the game.

draws with

Stones1985 Seleucid 166 to 125 BC with Parthian

65:61

The Carthaginains came out slightly ahead but it was a long drawn out battle that nearly ran the clock out.

Desperately close the whole time with what were either cunning plans or silly errors leading to countless flanks on both sides. A great match right to the last turn.

Division B

Swuul Egyptian 664-571 with Assyrian allies beat IMC Parthian 250 BC - 225 AD with Seleucid allies 41-16

On the Egyptian right the heavy chariots and supporting cavalry took heavy hits from Parthian Cataphracts and the cavalry supporting them, but the Egyptian flank didn't totally crumble. On the Egyptian left the light troops and Camels drove off the Parthian horses there, which did let the long line of Egyptian spearmen envelope the terrifying Pike Phalanxes and heavy warbands after their supporting medium foot had been driven off. If the parthian side hadn't been plagued by some horrible dice-rolls, the game might have looked very different.

Thank you for the game!
