I did. But I guess I don't know how to exactly do the elite objective of this. If I devote too many core units on the line, I won't get either bonus objectives. If I devote too many on the bonus one, I can't work on the elite one. I can't speed it up even with the Heavy Railway gun for it.

It's a conundrum, and I don't know how to do it exactly.

From what I recall, the two bonus objectives aren't difficult. Focus your resources on breaking through the British lines and destroying the Metaxas bunkers. Dealing with the Metaxas requires a methodical approach: first, destroy/suppress the ADs using K5 or another long range arty and strat bombers, then hammer the bunkers one by one with K5 and air strikes. In any case, once you’ve effectively defeated the British, you can split your forces to capture the two bonus objectives and complete the elite objective. But these are fairly general tips; as always, it all depends on the mix of equipment and heroes you can field.

I see. I'll see if I can try that again if I do a redo of it if so. I'm gonna be jumping off to Crete here!

Okay. I did the mistake of playing Crete like Vanilla, and I got my ass kicked.

I dont know what to do for this. If I land my Paras, they get shelled by the Royal Navy to smitheriness, and then I get deadlocked because of constant armored presence that have copious amount of mobile AA with them. And apparently my Strat Bombers barely do any damage to those enemy ships, only 2 points at max.

Any pointers, please?

Frankly you should be able to do it if not for the elite objective. I assume you can field a force of at least 5–6 strong paratroopers; land them near one of two closest airfields, capture it and then run away from the beach to avoid British navy gunfire. Now you can go for Maleme using your aircraft to smash the few British armored units. Furthermore, Student's Fallschirmjäger are quite strong and capable of accomplishing their mission even if controlled by the AI. You will likely only need to support them with the easternmost objective. Once again the main problem is getting the elite obj, you seem not very well equipped for this (did you get at least the strat bomber hero Renz earlier?); probably you'll need at least one more Lethal Attack hero and maybe a Double Attack one to assign to your strat bombers

I do have the Strat Hero Bomber. I should actually switch up a Double Attack one I have for it, you're right. I'll have to try again for it. Should I bother with like the airlifted units like regular infantry and engineers, or should I just keep them in reserve?

Well, it is best to rely on paratroopers, perhaps reinforced by an Ignore Ent or Machine Gun hero (if you have more than one Machine Gun, you can even use one on a strategic bomber). In general, do not hesitate to use all your available heroes on aircraft as well (that is precisely what makes this scenario interesting) and employ the combinations that best suit your needs. Finally, remember that once you have eliminated the few British fighters, you can send your own fighters to the reserve and call in additional bombers.

You son of a gun, you were right. Managed to actually now reduce the british navy to smitheriness, and we're making inland. Mind you, not sure if we can reach the bonus objective but I did forego the strange hybrid planes because im not a big fan of those, so at least i still got enough Commendation Points.

Update, the campaign of the USSR is going well! I've managed to achieve several elite objectives, but the one of Yelnya was a bit too difficult for me to get. I'm now at Gomel, buzzing my way down towards the Ukraine.

It's done! 1941 is done, and we've even managed to take a good amount of elite objectives, I was able to even field a full Panzer IV F2 unit with it. Came in handy in Moscow at the very least for it. On to 1942 now!

Hey, I wanted to ask a question on this.

Is there any advice on the first Kursk level? I get that it's meant to be portrayed as this gauntlet of trying to run through these defensive lines, but It's gotten to a point in which I can't do this. Not even after like taking 2 VP's and I went from like 13k Prestige to 7k prestige for it. That bloody artillery is everywhere, the red air force is everywhere, those bloody tanks are everywhere, I can't seem to make any progress anywhere!

I'm seriously thinking of ditching the 'Two main columns' approach because this is not working out for it. I don't know how I'm supposed to run this gauntlet without taking major losses on this. Im at a loss. Any helpful advice for this scenario would be greatly appreciated for it.

This would likely be seen as a cheating, but hear me out first.

Add these strings to RulesAxisOperations.json file from AOR, right after ""paratrooper_rules" : 1," string:
"max_overstr" : 10,
"trait_max_overstrength_bonus" : 10,

This should look like this:

Code: Select all

"paratrooper_rules" : 1,
"max_overstr" : 10,
"trait_max_overstrength_bonus" : 10,
"medals" : {
I've been experimenting with this setup for the last few weeks. What it does:
- First string increases your max OS to 10 from 5, essentially putting you on the even footing with the enemy (who later would indeed get to 20 strength units). This DOES NOT increase core slots cost, so +10 OS unit under new rules would need the same core slots as a +5 OS unit under default rules.
- Second string increases the bonus from Consolidator trait from 5 to 10. Core slots cost follows the aforementioned formula.

You'll need to load the save from Yakovlevo-Oboyan, complete it (with old rules) and then start Kursk again in order for these changes to take effect.

What it does on the battlefield? It evens the odds... kind of. You now have access to 20 HP units like Soviets (30 if you have Consolidator on them), but only if you can pay for them. OS costs less in core slots (there is a string for that, but I haven't used it) so you can add some OS to pretty much everybody in your army, but prestige cost may and will be quite steep, and Zero\Reduced slots will not save you from it. And these super-OSed units aren't as powerful as you may think - you definitely won't be able to waltz right into Soviet Guards formation with your 20 HP Tiger I and survive with minimal casualties. Heroes are still a problem, though - some of these become totally OP under these rules, like Rapid Fire ones.

Note that you'll have to reapply the changes if you update the mod.

I wonder if there is a way to make extra OS year-specific. No extra OS until 1941, and then add +1 for each consecutive year. Would be pretty neat, actually - alternate prestige sink. OS your units or buy a new hero.

Hello, the Kursk scenarios are quite challenging (as one would expect) and require careful planning of all your forces - heroes included - to succeed, despite the vast resources at your disposal. Yakovlevo-Oboyan can be a bit frustrating in the opening turns, but the key remains concentrating your main firepower on the points where you want to achieve a breakthrough. Your best assets are still Rudel and the heavy railway guns; if used together, no Soviet defense can hold. Ultimately, it isn't an overly difficult scenario, though you should keep an eye on the right bank of the Donets as well. I hope this helps you.

Hard to say anything without knowing your core and your playstyle. What settings are you playing, any general traits?

But since you mention you are starting with 13k, my first reaction is: game over! Even if you beat this scenario, you wont be able to go on, your core/ressources are just too low. You might have missed some heroes, or did not spend enough prestige in high class heroes, which you definately need.
Its also possible, that your units and heroes are not perfectly set up, that would be changeable.

I have some ideas:
- restart. Not the year, not the scenario, restart the whole campaign and do it better :) You should have like >50k prestige in 1943.
- restart the scenario. Knowing the map it a huge bonus. Use some cheats to see the whole map, develop a strategy and then try it again.
- restart the year and pick some good general traits. You could give yourself more points to spend, that could help a lot.
- use some easy cheats. You can simply type some code in the chat-box to give yourself some more prestige. Or more strength to a unit, generate some heroes etc. But that wont be a long term solution. Lets say you cheat 10k extra prestige to win the scenario, you will have to do that later again...its not getting easier, you wont have scenarios, where you can regenerate and farm prestige.

But lets be real: What you're saying is historically accurate. The german could not really get through the lines :)
Unfortunately the game isnt really designed for maps, where you not move from one side to another and take every city.

In my defense I did get plenty of heroes and did spend a lot of prestige on getting the higher grade ones. Perhaps I spent too much on it and it left me like that. But I somehow find it perplexing how someone managed to get like 150k prestige for this mod when I'm basically struggling to remain always above 10k for every scenario. I knew I shouldn't have accepted that Prestige reset from Sealion

I did manage to actually make progress by making the area around Cherkaskoye or what its name was as my 'Schwerpunkt' for it. That Flame Panzer III is GOAT for it.

And I think I'll go for the cheat instead for it. It's still is going to make me feel frustrated because I did manage to beat the OG Axis Operations with no cheats, and now im forced to resort to this. I do have only one bad trait, which is trench slog, and the ones I got is deep recon, master of blitzkrieg, perimeter control, and deadly grasp

Well, don't get too down about it; in my own playthroughs, I tend not to reach very high prestige levels because - even though I enjoy capturing enemy units (which is the key to amassing a lot of prestige) - I like to keep my units at peak efficiency throughout the scenarios. So, while I earn a lot, I also spend a lot. I played the Yakovlev scenario with around 30k and didn't lose much; I think you mainly need to improve your offensive strategy - optimizing the heroes at your disposal - to achieve better results. The traits you chose are interesting (I often pick Trench Slog as a negative trait myself), but at this stage of the campaign I believe the Panzer General trait is practically mandatory.

Yeah perhaps I should. I was wondering for instance if like Phased Movement could work for planes, for instance. It would in theory allow them to like strike targets and then weave away back to safety for it. Could be worth a shot.

Well, to help you more effectively I need more information about your core force. I suspect that- given you have many top-tier heroes, as you say - the main issue is either incorrect usage or combinations that simply aren't performing well enough. Not being able to rely on the Panzer General trait from this point on is a serious drawback; furthermore, I get the impression you are using a lot of infantry units, which are far less necessary from here on out.
In fact, I recommend limiting yourself to a maximum of four or five infantry units, utilizing only the best infantry-specific heroes you surely managed to acquire in earlier campaigns; this way, you’ll have extremely high-performing units capable of holding their own in almost any situation.
Instead of infantry, you should start converting some of your tanks into units capable of fighting effectively on any terrain by using the Vigilant and Ignore Ent heroes together (depending on how many you have available). The fact that you consider the Panzer III Flamm the GOAT makes me think you aren't taking advantage of this hero-tank combination at all.
Finally, you need to start thinking about how to capture more enemy units, because Russian tanks and assault guns will earn you a massive amount of prestige. Personally, I hate hero combinations that allow for the instant surrender of enemy units (which I consider a regrettable oversight by the developers), but I do find all other combinations that enable surrender after two attacks to be valid: from this point in the campaign onwards, utilizing them is no longer just an option, but essential for survival.
