Division C
SawyerK leading the Samnite 355-272 BC army and Gallic ally
defeated
Indibil with the Achaemenid Persian 460-420 BC army by
59 to 34.
Both armies started on hills connected on the far right side of the map, outside of the setup region. A battle for control of the connecting hill began immediately, and the Persian archery flights took a dreadful toll of both the Samnite light and medium foot. At the end, however, the Samnites controlled the hill and swept down into the valley on both sides, leading to flank attacks and victory.

The Parthians and their Seleucids allies bring lots of elite units.
We had our little swarm to overwhelm the easties : samnites, others italians and raw phalanx.
It was a good idea as the most efficient tactic against cataphracts is : blob them !
And elephants. Of course.
The elite infantry and the rest of the cataphracts was too far away to do anything against us.
We had carefully kept our distance for as long as possible.

Division C
SawyerK leading the Samnite 355-272 BC army and Gallic ally
defeated
Rockmanbob123 with the Roman 105-25 BC army by
60 to 43.
The opening showed a Roman army mainly composed of Legionnaires, including two Veteran Legionnaires, which instilled qualms in the hearts of the Samnites. In response, the Samnites refused the right flank with their foot, but sent cavalry on a long journey around Roman units on that side. The Legionnaires wreaked fearful havoc when contact was made, usually immediately disrupting ordinary Samnites, but their strung-out battle line offered an opportunity for flank attacks, of which the Samnites took full advantage. After a long and bloody battle, the Samnites emerged victorious.

Div A
Karvon Sarmation 350 BC w Skythian defeated snooky51 Pyrrhic 280-275 w/Samnite 41 - 14.
The field wasn't very attractive to our lancers. Forests filled most of our right sector. A medium-steep hill rose beyond these on our right flank near the center. Beyond that, scattered woods and rough lay around a number of hills on the far right flank. A medium-steep ridge sat in about the center of the field. Beyond that, a series of woods divided the center from the left sector. A pair of medium slopes ran across the field on the far left, a bit beyond the center line. Past these hills, a very large rough patch filled up the middle of the far left sector. A long slope rose on our side, facing the central steep ridge and the neighboring slopes in the left central sector. This, unfortunately, was covered by scattered rough and odd trees. Finally, woods filled up a lot of our left sector, running into our central sector, which would limit our ability to redeploy or fall back if things went bad. Given the vast superiority of the enemy in medium foot, we had no desire to get entangled in fights in and around the rough and difficult terrain.
We initially deployed our light foot and horse as a screen across the center with our lancer divisions to the rear in support. We would have to see where the enemy deployed before we could formulate an exact plan of attack.
The Pyrric forces opted to mass on our far left, using the woods to mask their left. They had a long line of pikes of mixed quality in their center. Medium foot and horse, backed up by their elephant, covered their right. A few lights screened their front. I fully expected the woods to be defended by more of their medium and light foot. It was going to be a very tough nut to crack.
We dispatched some of our lights to probe the woods covering the enemy left, backed up by a division of lancers. Two divisions spread out and screened the enemy center after driving in their skirmishers. One division, supported by lights, attacked the enemy right.
The probe of the woods turned up a number of light and medium foot. One of our light horse got chased off the field when it tried to sneak behind these woods. We sent some of our lights into the woods and cleared out the enemy lights but got bogged down when we ran into supporting mediums. A couple of pikes and horse, covered the gaps between the woods, making this a less attractive option to attack in force. We left a couple of lancers to serve as a delaying force, and our lights continued to skirmish and harass. The other lancers shifted to threaten the flanks of the advancing enemy center.
On our left, we drove in the enemy skirmishers on their supporting horse and mediums, with the deadly elephant lurking behind them. One of our lancers burst through the lines pursing routing light horse, and that would prove decisive a little later on. Our lancers drove back the enemy horse, only to have the elephant come stomping into them. We got locked in another fight with enemy lancers, and though 2 on 1, it went very slowly. The enemy brought up some mediums to flank the elephant fight, but we managed to flank and see off one of those instead, which gave us another hole to squeeze through. The elephant finally crushed our lancer, but thankfully charged off the field in pursuit of the survivors, giving us another bit of an opening and breathing room.
In the center, the enemy pike line ground forward and pretty aggressively attacked our screening lancers, gradually pushing our line back, past the woods masking their left. However, this ended up costing them, as one raw pike disrupted on attacking, then fragmented and broke in the ensuing melee, creating a hole in their line. Our lancers fell on their exposed flank, once past the woods, and destroyed another pike.
On the left, our victorious lancer returned and fell on the rear of the engaged medium foot, seeing them off. The long-engaged enemy lancer finally broke as well. The enemy elephant returned in time to see the collapse of their army.
