Division E

Ironclad (Bosporan) defeated Bodhran (Thracian) 48-14

The Bosporans mainly formed up on a large hill which dominated their side of the field. Beyond the hill was open terrain backed by woods whilst on the right side of the field were significant areas of rough. Their army advanced to the edge of the hill under cover of extensive light cavalry and infantry support. With the enemy army in sight the Bosporan left wing comprising their main cavalry force and supporting infantry advanced into the open to take on the opposing enemy cavalry and their supports. The Thracians responded by having their cavalry fall back whilst their powerful left wing of infantry advanced into the rough with skirmishers engaging their light counterparts whilst a strong light cavalry force moved to outflank the Bosporan right.

The Bosporan left wing cavalry advancing cautiously in case enemy lights were hidden in the woods close to where their mounted opponents had withdrawn before launching a full scale attack on their foes which with the assistance of some infantry met considerable success. With the protection of the high ground their right wing remained on the defensive and a lancer unit was detached to reinforce the main cavalry advance although the enemy light cavalry made considerable inroads into this flank and seriously stretched the defenders.

The Bosporans infantry moved from the high ground to block the enemy infantry advance. This gave them a good position for defence but also allowed them the opportunity, when the Thracians paused their advance, to launch a concentrated attack on the lead enemy units. This went well and together with the success of their cavalry resulted in a decisive victory. Thanks to Bodhran for a fine game.
