ADT 2025: RESULTS THREAD UP!

gort7078 (Macedonian's 320 BC) defeated Laurelik's Mountain Indians 28-59

It was a much closer game than the score! It was a battle of wings which is often the case in FoG2! Laurelik's cavalry wreaked havoc on my right flank and won that part of the battlefield! On my left flank though the Macedonian medium infantry advanced and started to push the Mountain Indians back! At this stage the Macedonian Phalanxes and Superior Warbands joined the fray! It was pure cold steel that broke the Mountain Indian flank and center! The Mountain Indian heavy infantry and archers could not hold up and broke on the Macedonian spears! It was a very good game that could of gone either way!

gort7078 (Macedonians 320 BC) defeated Asterix's Indian Hill Tribes 38-63!
In a vicious battle that resembled two distinct engagements! As happens in most battles it was another battle of two flanks! On my left flank defending a hill separated by a shallow stream and a marsh from another hill were every
Macedonian light unit and medium infantry unit in my force!
In the center were my phalanxes and superior warbands. On my right flank was the Macedonian cavalry!
Asterix's Hill Tribes launched a heavy all-out assault on my left flank! It was a combination of Thermopylae and Little Round Top! My troops weathered heavy arrow fire and then stood up to a tremendous ground attack! Fighting virtually to the last man they slowed the attack and held on to the bitter end!
Meanwhile the rest of my force waited and just as my left flank crumbled my center and right wing attacked! It was again a story of cold steel as my heavy infantry and cavalry smashed through and won the day! It was a great battle! Hard fought and truly epic! A big salute to Asterix's Indian Hill Tribes! GREAT BATTLE! GOOD LUCK!!

Victory for Perdiccas (Ironclad) against Demetrius (Egmont)

Ironclad (Pergamene 262-191 BC) v Egmont (Macedonian 320-261 BC) 67-46

Perdiccas using his client Pergamene army faced Demetrius with his traditional Macedonian forces and knowing that his medium infantry would be outmatched by the enemy pikes decided to advance swiftly with his superior heavy barbarians on the right for success there whilst refusing his left. To his dismay when both armies came into full view he discovered that his left flank cavalry was heavily outnumbered by their mounted opponents so he spent the early turns switching most of his right flank cavalry to reinforce his left. Fortunately the slow advance of the enemy permitted this redeployment although the presence of two enemy elephant units gave concern as did two enemy engines; the latter given their deep position proved to be less of a threat than thought.

Battle continued.....

Despite the decisive success of the barbarian attack, fortunes elsewhere on the field proved decidedly mixed. Whilst one elephant unit was weakened by light javelins the other cleverly shielded by his protection intervened in the cavalry battle - assisted in its effect by the Perdiccan mistake in moving his cavalry into a single line thus exposing more units to the elephant effect. In the central infantry fighting the Demetrians pike and supporting units eventually emerged victorious from a tough fight against their opponents.

The cavalry fight split into a number of separate actions which spread over a wider area and left the the eventual mounted winners too distant to intervene in the climatic infantry struggle. The Perdiccans after earlier eliminating one elephant unit were able to successfully surround and break the remaining one with light units.

With the battle evenly poised the decision was finally determined by the meeting of the two successful close order infantry wings. Here the fervent charges of the Perdiccan barbarian heavies defeated the Demetrian Pikes in a bloody carnage which skewed the end result so much in the Peridiccans favour. Victory for Perdiccas (Ironclad) against Seleucus (rockmanbob123)

Ironclad (Macedonian 328-321 BC) v rockmanbob123 (Greek Mercenary 460-281 BC) 42-15

Seleucus chose his Greek Mercenary army to oppose the traditional Macedonians of Perdiccas. The open plain allowed both armies to advance unhindered, with the more compact pike based Macedonians facing the much longer hoplite line of the Greeks.

The opening stages of the battle saw the Seleucans make a determined advance of their line towards their right with their cavalry and lights leading to seize the terrain feature in view, an area of marshland and the flat ground beyond that bordered the edge of the field. This was matched by the Seleucans who supplemented their lights with mediums to eject the stubborn enemy lights holding out amongst the marshes. Meanwhile a swift cavalry engagement occurred which saw the Perdiccans, greatly favoured by the Gods, defeating their mounted opponents. A late attempt at recovery by the Seleucans was foiled by the arriving enemy elephant unit.

By this time the neighbouring heavy infantry formations had engaged in a fierce conflict which saw the Perdiccan pikes emerge victorious. The position at turn 13 from this fighting is shown below.

To try and delay this juggernaut it launched a number of isolated attacks and began switching unengaged units including an elephant unit to move across the rear of the field to meet the coming storm.
Although the position on the Perdiccan right continued to deteriorate their great and swift successes on their left and centre had given them a lead which eventually proved decisive with the final position shown below. Thanks to rockmanbob123 for a fine game.

Simon Lancaster (Macedonian 320 BC) defeated mberisso (Macedonian 320 BC) 40-5.

Awkward beginning with a large hill with rough ground in the middle of my path. We navigated ourselves into position and clashed. With some good rolls and better positioning I managed to gain an advantage.

Thanks to my opponent for a fun and feisty battle.

FINAL RESULT Perdiccan victory 42-15

That was fine literature sir! Rockmanbob is one of my most played opponents, and its not easy to pin him so quickly, although Greek armies are difficult to put it mildly.

Below are the results for 30.5.2025 still early days but we see:

Antipater pulling the Empire's strings from Corinth (Simon Lancaster),

Perdiccas (Ironclad) setting hegemony over Cappadocia,

Peithon (Karvon) scheming successfully in Coele Syria watching for others to present their shoulder blades,

And the man Alexander named "the bravest and noblest I ever met" Kraterus pacifying Mesopotamia

No sign of Brenmusik, Indibil, BigMantuMan (most worried about him any replies?), råadilla1988 or Chris Townsend on the boards!

Karvon's Seleucid 302-301 defeated mberisso's Saka 300-50 52-22.

The armies met in a farming district with several large farming complexes on both sides of the field. Hills overlooked a pair of ponds in the right center sector. A string of woods and a marsh blocked off much of the right edge. A large wood filled our left corner of the field. On our side, one farming complex lay a little beyond the woods on the left edge, another between the left and center section, and the last between the center and right section, all short of the middle of the field. A couple of medium rough patches lay in the center beyond the farming complexes.

All-in-all, this significantly narrowed channels of approach on our half of the field. Nevertheless, given the masses of horse we were facing, I decided on a pretty conservative initial deployment against our own edge. We deployed our phalanx interspersed with medium foot to form our center. We deployed a large block of medium foot on our right opposite the right farming complex. We deployed a mounted command of horse supported by elephants on each flank. On the foward edge of our deployment zone, we spread a screen of our lights. Once our scouts ascertained the location and likely axis of the enemy advance, we could respond, shifting behind our screen as necessary.

The Saka came with an all horse army, deployed in a long line across the field. Almost all their light horse formed up in a leading division on their right. Most of their cavalry were horse archers, but they had half-a-dozen cataphracts spread along the line in support. Their lights galloped forward on their right towards the gap between the farming complexes on the edge and center. Their supporting horse advanced a little more cautiously all along the front.

We pushed our light foot into both central farming complexes. Our medium foot moved forward to secure the one on our right, while our phalanx rumbled forward to fill the gap between the two. Our right wing horse shifted in behind the phalanx in the center as a reserve. Our left wing horse, supported by a few mediums, refused our left to prevent the enemy lights from flanking us.

The Saka moved up to skirmish, and our light foot shot up their lights and fairly easily repulsed them with ease from the rough and shelter of the enclosures. We rotated out the occasional disrupted light to be rallied by their generals. Next, their cavalry bow moved up, and again, our shooting proved superior, slowly disrupting or fragmenting a few before our arrows ran low. A few of our lights eventually died, shielding the army from arrows or run down by angry Saka horse.

With most of the Saka now up in engagement range, we started pushing forward to disrupt the effectiveness of their shooting. Their cavalry scattered in various directions as we surged forward, leaving their supporting cataphracts a bit isolated along the line. While they managed to rundown a medium foot or two, we turned our elephants on these and slowly stomped most of them to bits. Here and there we caught horse archers who evaded into bad spots, and trapped and broke them between our horse and infantry.

With the Saka line in shambles, we unleashed our horse reserve from the center, finished off trapped horse and ran down and saw off fragmented units huddled in the rear. The Saka had enough, and fled the field.

Sorry for the late post, still reforming the men after the dust of battle has settled

rpadilla1988(Ptolemaic) defeats Asterix (Macedonians) 38-63

The battle started with tension, Ptolemaic forces lined and ready for battle, though the enemy was out of sight. Stout pikes at the center and left, they formed to the right of a copse of woodland off to the right with an entire force of medium foot (Thracians and Thureophoroi) with a heavy screen of skirmishers ready to kill. Further out and hidden out of sight was a squad of horse, lances and veteran armored riders. Steeling amongst themselves and pressing forward, once at the end of the woodline the mass of Asterix army stepped in sight. Intimidating; they pressed forward and sent their overwhelming pikes out first to meet the Ptolemaic host, stepping gingerly with their left flank and cautious of the woods. With little time to waste lest the main body be overrun, the troops in the woods lunged forward, skirmishers at the front. The overwhelming pikes of Asterix met the Ptolemaic center and pressed them, nearly overcoming them though some managed to hold while others broke, their elephants crumbling to the Macedonians own; but to the Ptolemaic right, the weight of skirmishers and springing force of cavalry managed to fold Asterix left first. They reformed, swung back around and marched over from where the Macedonians began, finding lucky flanks and twisting the Macedonian line until they where overcome. GG Asterix!!

The final result, notice the Ptolemaic forces started at the bottom of the field but swung up and around down back.

gort707 allied army of (Skythian/Saka 550 BC) defeated Indibil's Lysimachid (320 BC) 32-58
It was my cavalry against a phalanx army! Fortunately, it was a level battlefield and gave me a mobile advantage! I am not a great cavalry commander but I utilized some tactics I picked up from Karvon in the "Little Wars" tournament! I was able to destroy the light infantry and cavalry first. And then the heavy cavalry and some of the medium infantry! It was a good battle! I was happy to win! Thanks Indibil and good luck!

The Indo-Greek polyglot seemed in a rush to test their metal against Macedonian discipline, such a rush in fact that they arrived rather piecemeal and rabble like. Tragically Krateros, while attempting to bolster a unit of disrupted Thureophoroi battling a horde of Elephants, tripped and was trampled by his own men. Fortunately for this most favoured of Diadochi, the battle was quickly won decisively and, upon recovering his corpse from the mud, it was discovered that his magnificent set of plot armour gifted by the Gods had preserved this most manliness of men and he still breathed to drink another day!

Tough battle all the way. The crash of pike on pike was deafening. Elephants were eventually driven off. Swarms of enemy lights made things difficult but my men had drunk some good Kappadocian wine, and thus fortified, took the arrows and stones on their well armoured chests and laughed.
