Re: ADT 2025: RESULTS THREAD UP!
The army of Asterix approached me with rather acrimonious glee. I shouted to my men to stand steady and hold against the barbarians. We drank some wine from Kappadocia before receiving the charge of the renegades. They hadn't been trained so well and my phalanx and warbands made short work of the rabble before us.
Asterix tried to use elephants to no avail. This tactic didn't work so well as my spear and light infantry did a sterling job of holding my flank and sending his army back to his farmland and hovels.

Krateros the Thunderbolt, the strongest son of a bitch either side of the Hellespont, offered open battle, Macedonian to Macedonian. To his credit, Perdiccas the Seat Warmer agreed and the armies arrayed themselves to contend for the favour of the Gods and supremecy amongst the Successors.
Turn 10
Having made the long trek from their respective camps battle is joined.

Perdiccas, eager to affirm his authority over Alexanders former subordinates, advances rapidly towards the rough. This line the true soldiers of Phillip, led by the ever faithful Krateros, held, held as only Macedonians can. Our right soon dominated and the end of the enemy line began to crumble, collapsing towards the centre.
Turn 16/17.

The ring is mine, it has always been mine and will become an heirloom of my house!

Krateros the Thunderbolt, the strongest son of a bitch either side of the Hellespont, offered open battle, Macedonian to Macedonian. Unfortunately he was occupied in Asia Minor wrestling Perdiccas for his ring.
So, with a fist full of drachma and a fist full of dirty deeds needing to be done, he turned to the strongest sons of bitches that side of the Adriatic, the Samnites. With the price agreed upon, they descended on Leonnatus and his back slapping Greeks with all the alacrity of a Roman debt collector with hungry children.
Turn 8
The arrows fly and the javelins soon follow.

The Samnites advanced, the left and centre echeloning further to the left up onto the hills matching the Greek line in front of them, while the right advanced straight ahead to defend their hill supported by the better cavalry.
Turn 16(?)
Just like a Greek to take a knife to a Samnite fight! The clash when it came was short and brutal.

The Greek right quickly shattered on impact, that and weight of numbers carried the day decisively. Athens will submit!
42-8.

Re: ADT 2025: RESULTS THREAD UP!
Karvon's Seleucids 302-301 defeated gort7078's Macedonian 320-261 52-25
The armies met in hilly country, with two rather long chains of gentle slopes running across the center to our right on the far side of the field. Scattered woods and rough filled large parts of the left and far left sectors.
Anticipating the Macedonians taking advantage of the hills, we opted to strike along the left side. We massed our lights, backed up by horse and elephants to screen our advance, with our phalanx and medium foot following up behind.
The Macedonians, indeed, deployed along the slopes with a large phalanx and some warbands. A large horse division covered their right. A line of lights screened their front. As our light screen was discovered, the Macedonians sent their mounted division to drive it off and slowly began shifting the phalanx to follow.
Our lights skirmished with his horse and drew them into the arms of our supporting horse and elephants. The fight was fierce, but relatively brief, and we destroyed and chased off the division before his foot could arrive. We detached a couple of squadrons of horse to ride around and threaten the Macedonian left.
His phalanx rumbled forward, but was forced to break up, a few detached to screen his left, and to work around some rough patches. We sent some of our mediums and lights into the rough, and this further slowed his progress.
With his heavy foot a bit spread out, we were able to surround and destroy a few of these with a combination of our own pikes, horse and elephants. Our horse swept away a few of his surviving lights and the Macedonians had enought and flefd the field.

Victory for Perdiccas against Eumenes
Ironclad (PER) (Macedonian 328-321) defeated gort7078 (EUM) (Macedonian 320-261) 50-17
A hard fought battle that was much closer for much of the match than the end result suggests.
The army compositions provided an interesting contrast with the Perdiccans being pike heavy and advantaged in elephants compared to the Eumenes greater concentration on cavalry and medium troops.
A largely open plain was broken only by a flanking wood which deceptively looked small in the great expanse of the field - hence the joking title of the battle of the (mini) wood - but was large enough to prove a critical fighting area for the lights and neighbouring cavalry. The Perdiccans directed a number of pike units to engage the enemy cavalry to supplement their inferior mounted numbers who eventually emerged victorious from the battle around the woods.
Although outnumbered the Eumenian Pikes were better handled and looked to have the advantage against the somewhat uneven Perdiccan fighting line. This resulted in a lengthy push of pikes and even when the Perdiccans fed more pikes into the fray, the Eumenians rose to the occasion with one veteran units holding off three enemy formations. Eventually the pike advantage and cavalry reinforcements saw the Perdiccans emerge victorious. Thanks Don for a great game.
Thanks to Asterix and Karvon for their advice on inserting screenshots successfully.

Run the screenshot through MS paint first? It almost always ends up at around 1 to 1.3 using simple "print screen" then "paste" and "cut." The MS photo program also reduces file size. All the games very one sided so far! Interesting. Thanks a lot for the AAR! I know people read them.Ironclad wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 10:12 am Victory for Perdiccas against Eumenes

ABSENCE OF MAPS - I've tried without success to add a couple of maps - using additional posts but despite numerous attempts editing the original 4 MB versions down through 2.5 MB and eventually 1.3 and 1.1 MBs it just won't take. Getting down below 1 MB (which might work - has done so for me before I think) loses too much detail. So if someone knows the secret I'd be pleased to hear. Thanks.

I use Irfanview to crop the screenshot, eliminating unwanted parts, then use the resize option to reduce it 50%. Irfanview automatically compresses images, so file size isn't an issue.

Re: ADT 2025: RESULTS THREAD UP!
On the lush Amu Darya River plain our Baktrian force sought to honour Cassander's plea and defeat the invading Sakae the Greeks of Leonnatus had promised trinkets and baubles to destroy our northern outposts, we got drawn into the very wide flank of the horsement, and although we managed to ravage their meager right flank resting on the Amu Darya River (view here is from the River facing North) and our elephants routed their center, this was only a false taste of victory....
Our Macedonian veterans, armed in our regional manner with heavy armour, survivors of countless cavalry battles under Alexander got lured into a trap around a patch of rocky ground where the arrows were thicker thank breathable air, so many horses fell, their riders soon to follow. The Sakae closed in, with a small but unexpected contingent of barbarian infantry streaming out of the woods to finish our stricken leadership off.
There was no way back, his fleeing pig riders rallied en masse, returning to the field to unleash the content of their quivers into our tearful eye sockets. Our only assurance is that the Barbarians pillage and leave as always, and we can rebuild, as always.
Jaerho (Sakae) 52 - Asterix (Baktria) 27
Sad to admit, but our noble Hetairoi, victors time and again, have obviously gone native and its showed today!

Simon Lancaster (Macedonian 320 BC) defeated gort (Macedonian 320 BC) 62-40.
A rip-roaring battle. Gort kept his main line back and swept across the field with lancers and veteran cavalry. I held against the masses of cavalry and eventually defeated his main line which took a long time with many casualties on both sides.
Thanks for the game.

Re: ADT 2025: RESULTS THREAD UP!
Karvon's Seleucid 302-301 defeated Lauraleik's Mountain Indian 492-170 46 - 14.
Battle was joined at a series of mountainous passes; a large one in the center, a smaller on our far left with a tiny one between the two. A loose chain of farms ran from our far left to the right side of the central pass on our side of the field with a large rough patch and marsh guarding the approach to the last one from our side. Beyond the passes was a large plain with a few scattered rough patches and farms on each flank.
We deployed our most of our mounted on our left, our phalanx in the center and most of our medium foot, supported by a couple of horse on our right. Lights screened each division.
The Mountain Indians formed a long double line, archers in the front and medium foot in the rear. An elephant supported each flank and one was in the center. Light horse formed on each flank with a few light foot in a loose screen along the entire front.
We opted to push wide on each flank and our phalanx shifted to the left side of central pass, led by our screening lights.
The Indians advanced forward all along the front to face us.
Our lights forced the passes on the left, with our horse helping to clear the enemy lights, and seeing off the enemy elephant shooting. With the passes clear, our mounted poured through and begin to swing around the Indian right. On the right, our lights and medium foot slowly drove back the opposing lights, and our supporting horse chased off the enemy light horse. We shoot up the elephant, but it managed to hide behind infantry, so we weren't able to finish it off. Our phalanx rumbled forward in the center towards the right end of the long enemy line of foot.
The Indians moved up some mediums to refuse their right, but we swept around these with our horse and then enveloped them or shot them up with our lights. Their exposed archers were hit by shooting, then our horse smashed into them. Some fought valiantly, but they were swept away after a few hours of fighting.
On our left, the Indian shooting took its toll and our mediums and lights were slowly ground down before they could come to grips enmass. Their elephant rallied, stomped one of our mediums, and chased it off into the sunset.
In the center, our pikes crunched into a mix of archers and supporting mediums as we attacked in echelon leading with our left. The Indians pushed their elephant and some mediums to try to envelop us, but we punched through before they could pull that off.
WIth the collapse of their right and part of their center, the Indians had enough and fled for the hills.

Re: ADT 2025: RESULTS THREAD UP!
The Battle of the Bald Knoll
The Forgotten Battle Near Maroneia
Had the appointed chronicler Dicaeus not met his end beneath the panicked feet of his own elephant corps—trampled into anonymity amid the prelude to battle—this thunderous clash between Cassander and the defiant Arhidaois might have earned eternal renown in the scrolls of antiquity. Separated from Ptolemy and grasping at sovereign glory, Arhidaois brought his splintered expeditionary force down from the Bithynian heights, only to collide with destiny—and Cassander's ambition—just north of mist-veiled Maroneia.
The dawn was a shroud of fog, thick and suffocating, blanketing the broken terrain that separated two sun-parched plains. Visibility was minimal; strategy yielded to instinct. Makedónes met Makedónes in a tempest of steel atop a barren knoll—an ugly, bald rise pockmarked by a withered clutch of diseased trees, like nature's own omen. Here, in a frenzied melee bereft of formation, confusion reigned. Yet the chaos would become Cassander’s crucible.
With desperate urgency, Cassander drove his weary phalanxes on a forced march toward that central height, seeing in its modest elevation a keystone of tactical leverage. The knoll, while unremarkable to the eye, afforded a decisive perch—defensible and commanding. His left flank lay anchored by a somber, opaque lake—later etched into memory and maps as Λίμνη Αίματος (Límni Aímatos, or “Blood Lake”)—and his right obscured by two dense, generous forests that funneled any approach into predictable lanes. This choice of terrain, audacious and blind, paid immediate dividends.
From the north, Arhidaois’s forces descended in haste, deceived by a brilliant feint: Cassander had drawn them wide with the illusion of an exposed flank, only to concentrate his core for a brutal central thrust. What followed was a brutal and brilliant interior flanking engagement. As Arhidaois's left surged toward what they thought was Cassander’s soft underbelly, they were enveloped from both sides. Cassander’s right folded inward, crushing the Ptolemaic flank in a textbook pincer. Two flanks, one real and one illusory, both turned to scythes.
Securing the knoll early granted Cassander a sloping advantage: his pikes surged downhill with momentum, hacking through the disoriented vanguard of Arhidaois like waves of iron teeth. It was the first of several masterstrokes in a battle otherwise choked with smoke, mud, and noise. The sheer confusion—lack of formed lines, the claustrophobic quarters, the eerie silence broken only by cries and steel—made the melee seem less like a battle and more like a fever dream.
Edmondas, the ever-cunning advisor to Arhidaois, strained to restore order amid the collapse. He darted across the field, rallying shattered lines, extinguishing crisis after crisis with the composure of a veteran. Yet there were too many fires, too few buckets.
Then came the final blow. Cassander’s elephants, long criticized for their insatiable hunger and sluggish pace, found their moment of reckoning. The blood-dark lake, while hindering movement, inadvertently compressed the Ptolemaic flanking force, making them ripe for trampling. Cassander’s war-beasts, unleashed with surgical brutality, shattered what remained of Arhidaois's cohesion. Their howls echoed across the valley, sealing the fate of the day.
In retrospect, it was terrain that won the battle: terrain claimed early, exploited cunningly, and used mercilessly. Cassander had turned nature itself into a weapon.
Final Salute
All laurels to Edmund Dantes for a splendid game. His gallant orchestration of a beleaguered and ambushed force under Arhidaois nearly wrestled victory from the jaws of defeat. Yet the breakthrough of Cassander’s elephants on the blood-slicked flank proved decisive, rolling back resistance like parchment before a storm.
