Generals and movement
had a situation in our last game I was not sure about. Moved my general with my elephants in the opposing JAP. During my movement phase I tried a difficult manouver with the elephants who rolled an 11 so no need for the general to use his influence on them. Since he did not modify the die roll could he have just moved off on his own? I had put him with the elephants to use his modifier for the difficult move die roll in the first place.
I left him there but was wondering since I had contemplated moving him off to another unit at the time to try and get a second move out of them during my next turn.

You would need to declare if his modifier is being used or not BEFORE you roll.
Note you can take the +1 for being within range then move. If you take the +2 for range and attached (not an IC) even if you then don't need it on the roll you are stuck with the BG until the next JAP. (All My Opinions Mind You) NEW SHORTHAND : AMOMY

Not sure if we have done this wrong or not but we have played that a BG can move away and leave a general where he is.
Am I missing something that would forbid this?
The issue is if you declare that you are using the +1 modifier for being attached to the BG on the CMT roll (before you roll) then you must stay with the BG. If you only use the + for being in range and not the +1 for being attached then the general can choose to move with the BG or not.

A general can leave or join a battle group at anytime he wants. You have to have him move with the battle group for a double move and I guess if you use your modifier he has to stay put too.
I was just happy the elephants managed 180 degree turn without need of the general, guess all those night classes paid off that day

Surely this means "only if his modifier for being attached to the BG is used". Doesn't it? If not what is the Logic?ottomanmjm wrote:On page 43, 5th bullet point in Points to note on CMT:
If a commander is with a battle group when it takes a CMT he must remain with the BG for the rest of the phase.
So you need to move the general before making the CMT if you dont want to move with the BG.

Why should it mean anything then what's clearly stated? It simply keeps things straight. If you do it otherwise you would need to declare before the roll if you want to use the commander (i.e. his bonus). Naturally that would result in people to 'forget' this declaration (genuinly for some, less so for others). Then after the roll just fails to suffice they would count the commander anyway as he is 'obviously with the BG' (if the roll succeeds without requiring the commanders bonus OTOH ...). I've seen this happen way to often in 6th. It's a good thing it's not possible in FoG.kal5056 wrote:Surely this means "only if his modifier for being attached to the BG is used". Doesn't it? I agree. If you don't want your General moves with a BG and you want only +1 for General in command range, you can move your General before you start BG's move.Ghaznavid wrote:Why should it mean anything then what's clearly stated?
