klayeckles (perg) defeats Karvon (Cimmerian) 41 to 16

cim shooters got caught up by pursuit and the perg cav managed to concentrate on a portion of the Cimmerian cav, leading to a domino collapse....gg...those shooters are not fun to stand up to!

Division B

principesromanes (Armenian (Tigranes) 83-69 BC with Pontic 84-47 BC allies) defeats random27 (Hebrew 681-586 BC with Kushite Egyptian 727-656 BC) 50-25

The Armenians apprehensively formed up, anticipating a relentless volley of arrows and dreading the inevitable chariot charges. The Armenians brought their cataphracts to counter those chariots. The Armenians brought their massed archers and a decent selection of lights in the hopes of avoiding losing the firefight too badly. The lines approached cautiously – each side very hesitant to surrender the chance at getting in the first volley. When the missiles did start to fly, the one Hebrew weakness started to show – their powerful chariots were also an integral part of their swarm of arrows. The Armenians took advantage of the chariots’ participation in the firefight to target them in the missile face, and were lucky to get a few disruptions and even a chariot fragmenting from missile fire. Mind you, the chariot still survived the check when charged by imitation legionaries… Fortunately for the Armenians, enough chariots broke to open up the Hebrew centre before the Armenian flanks could collapse. A win, but it felt very tense.

This Hebrew army is a powerful army. I think this is random’s first loss with it this season and I went 8-0 with it last season. It really is a bronze and iron age army that comes out ahead when it sneaks into the classical era.

Division A

Stones1985 (Arab Conquest) beat Aetius39 (Byzantine) by a score of 42 to 16. A close game where the Arabs got into a bit of trouble early on, but a well timed rally by some Dailami turned the game around and put them on the front foot.

Thanks, good game.

RussellGardener1964 (Turkish) defeated Rockmanbob123 (Anglo-Saxon with Viking allies) 47-19

Victory was largely achieved by isolating my enemy's units and ganging up with 3-5 horse archer units and picking them off piecemeal.

Thank you for a great game.

Division C

RussellGardener1964 (Turkish) and IMC (Viking) recorded a draw. My opponent was 1 point away from victory, at 44-20, but I kept running away, like the coward I am, to hold out for a draw :-)

Many thanks for the game.

Division A

markleslie Auxumite 100-970 AD with Beja 250-849 AD defeats random27 Andalusian 756 -1049 AD + spanish 718-899 AD allies 43-8.

Turn 7: neglected to take a shot of starting positions, here the sides are already fully engaged.
Image

Both sides began by very slightly shuffling here and there while the skirmishers had their time to shine, or not.
Eventually the extended lines of the parties met at the stream in the centre, as is the fashion in these times, and fought it out til the conclusion.

Turn 10: once contact was made the battle resolved fairly quickly.
Image

This day God favoured the big battalions and impact worked reasonably well against the enemy foot, quickly routing their opponents, while their lancers proved too often to be ineffective to aid Andalusian hopes.

To my opponent, the path to righteous victory lies through God. Salute!

Division A

markleslie Danish 1200-1319 AD with Baltic Tribes 1050-1283 AD defeats Cherebuschka Baltic Tribes 1050-1283 AD with Lithuanian 1100-1299 AD allies 51-25.

Turn 11: a protracted period of marching and the swatting of flies.
Image

My Danes refused to approach the woods so there was little to do but stare, twiddle my thumbs and see if I could reach the other end of the board. My opponent however had other ideas and decided to throw caution to the wind and advanced out on to the plain to try his impact luck. Having already given up on getting a result I offered the Balts a draw, he declined and boldly pressed on.

Turn 19: the end.
Image

The Danish Balts got the worst of it, not doing very well at all and may have to reconsider their career choices. Fortunately the Danish spearmen, generally, got the better of the enemy with some slight help from the knights who seemed to spend most of their time pursuing rather than fighting.

If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled.
Salute!

angusosborne (Ghaznavid) defeats alexhstandish (Lithuanian) 56-31

The Lithuanian set up defensively between a forest and some rough ground. We advanced slowly, attempting to surround them.

The key here was delivering Dailami and Elephants without losing morale. My cavalry left flank was broken easily,.

DIV A
GDod Indo-Greek/Indian beat frederic02 Avar 41/2

The field was turned 90 degrees to take advantage of terrain with woods on each flank and a central patch of rough. The Avars formed up, but their lights were caught falling back, The irregular foot and cavalry sent to relief the pressure were also sent packing by timely elephant charges. Meanwhile, the center Avar light infantry skirmishers were sent packing and the Indian right flank anchored in the wood were more than holding it's own against determined light cavalry skirmishing.
frederic02 had a very hard position to take and could have easily played for a draw. So, kudos to him.
