Hello DerPz. I'd like to thank you for your series of posts on German OOBs using the 4-unit rule. Over the years I have tried, with varying degrees of success, to follow this rule since I am somewhat obsessive about being as historically accurate as possible when playing Panzer Corps. The information you are providing is immensely useful, and will definitely form part of my considerations as I continue playing Panzer Corps.

**The data published is based on a modification of the file (Equipment.pzdat), so the examples shown have variations if I had used the original game file.
I may make modifications or corrections to all the examples to show how it would be in the vanilla version. **

Also from my point of view it is better or recommended to play DLC GC using the Nikivdd / Grand campaign complete v3 mod, since this has more variety of units for the AI and has escape routes that allow the use of reserve divisions.

Hello DerPz,

Not sure what you mean by:
"Also from my point of view it is better or recommended to play DLC GC using the Nikivdd / Grand campaign complete v3 mod"
I've played Nikivdd's GTPG Grand Campaign v.1.14, but I'm not sure this is the same mod that you are referring to. If it is then I wasn't aware there is a v3. Can you clarify please?

Still testing it out. I'm finding it hard to not want to add at least 1 recon and 1 anti-aircraft unit to each of my divisions! I've been so used to playing with an optimum all-arms division that includes its own support units such as recon, engineer, anti-aircraft, anti-tank etc. But I think I will master the 4-unit division eventually; just have to think outside the box.

Greetings

Regarding your comment, I am going to give you my point of view and how I will try to recreate a historical scenario from the perspective of the Rule of 4 units to simulate divisions.

Assuming I'm going to start the Grand Campaign 1939 DLC by default without making any changes.

Taking into account the following informative data from the first scenario (Poznan) I can start from that point to create my initial structure.

14 units in total
I have 10 displayed on the map which leaves me 4 options to buy.

I have :
1 Panzer IA
2 Panzer IA
3 Wehr inf Mot
4 Wehr inf
5 3.7 Pak Mot
6 7.5 Art Mot
7 GbJager
8 Sdkfz 222
9 Bf109E
10 Stuka

The 4 units that I am going to buy are:
11 Sturmpz I
12 Pionier Mot
13 Bf 109E
14 He 111 H-2

- I am going to organize all these units into a panzer corps of 2 divisions.
#1 Panzer Division and #2 Semi-Motorized Infantry Division

1.Pz.Div -
- 1.Pz.IIC (I upgrade an Pz IA to Pz IIC )
- 2.Pz.IA
- 3.Wehr Inf + Truck
- 4.7.5 cm Artillerie + Truck

2.Div.Infanterie Semi-Mot
- 1.Wehr inf
- 2.GbJager
- 3.37 Pak Mot
- 4. SturmPz I

Auxiliar Units
- Sdkfz 222
- Pionier Mot

1 Luft Flotte
1.Bf 109 E
2.Bf 109E
3.Stuka
4.He 111 H-2

// I direct the Panzer Division in the direction of Konin.
// I directed the Infantry Division to Poznan, taking into account that I deployed the SturmPz I and the Motorized Engineer Battalion to the north that would be supported by the Sdkfz 222.
// I chose to buy another Bf 109 to achieve immediate air superiority and allow the bombers to freely support the operations, mainly the infantry division, which due to its initial positions would be a little behind.

—> Remember that not all divisions were complete, they always lacked some element, later you can create divisional support units that you simply use in necessary support situations, so they go from one side to the other on the map.

It is really very interesting to play with the rule of 4, because it allows you to make many combinations, and you can also create Brigades of 2 or 3 units, Battalions of heavy tanks, etc., etc.

Do you have a modified equipment.pzeqp file with historical knowledge that you share?

I think that the equipment.pzeqp file needs to be made some changes to adjust it more towards the historical taste, for example: leaving the same availability dates, you can exchange the Sturmpanzer I for the 15 cm sFH18 artillery and in transport add that it be towed only by the Sdkfz 7.

I do not even want to try and make modifications to the pzeqp files! I will surely make a mess of it. I am content to make use of eqp files modded by the more expert players. My particular favourite, and the one I use most often, is the Amulet mod as I particularly like the ability of many units to switch functions. I prefer to try and organize my units along historical lines as far as possible, accepting the fact that the types of equipment that are available will have an effect on what is feasible. But, after all, it's a game and I do the best I can with what I have. :o
