Samurai basing....
Hullo everyone!
Just as I did with the Vikings, I'm sitting on alot of unpainted lead and would love to have an army up and ready when the new list book comes out in a few weeks. To this end, I've been steadilly painting on the mass of Tin Soldier Samurai I have had gathering dust for years.
I got a glimpse of the later Samurai list from a copy of Empires of the Dragon that came back with another player from Gen Con. So I have a good idea of how to base the various troop types. But I'm running low on mounted figures. I don't recall, but is there a period of the late Samurai list that permits the "MF bow*, HW" troops that make up the majority of the army to be depicted as traditional infantry rather than the deep based mixed cavalry and infantry stands? Tin Soldier are a pain to obtain here in the US, they simply do not mix at all with any other brand of 15mm figures, and shipping costs to order them online are a bit expensive.
Thanks.

I could have sworn I saw an option somewere in the list notes that after some date close to the end of the period covered by the list were the "bushi and followers" troop type could be depicted as normal medium infantry.
That's what I get for relying on five minutes of looking at the list and trying to recall what I saw.
Looks like it's time to order more cavalry figures....especially since I want at least two or three BGs of seperate cav as well as the mixed units.

Yes, after 1467 this is an option. They should be mixed foot samurai and followers on normal MF bases.Trench_Raider wrote:is there a period of the late Samurai list that permits the "MF bow*, HW" troops that make up the majority of the army to be depicted as traditional infantry rather than the deep based mixed cavalry and infantry stands?

Well, straight from the horses mouth so to speak! That clears it up for me.
My confusion was a result of seeing the "based as normal MF" without noticing that the BGs should still be mixed cavalry and infantry. As it's a trick to try and get Tin Soldier 15mm cavalry figures to fit on a normal 40x30 base, let alone a 40x20, it looks like I will be using the standard basing and now need to procure at least 24-36 more Samurai cavalry figures. Of course this depends on how many BGs of seperate cavarly I decide to run. Given that superior armoured cav with bow and swordsman are pretty effective, I'll probably run at least two or three.
