Rinn na creachadairean Albannach gàirdeachas air a’ chrìch leis na Sasannaich agus chuir iad air iteig iad
On a misty morning in a fairly open plain devoid of significant features apart from a low hill, marsh and wood on the English left, Scottish raiders swarmed the Sasannaich force sent to intercept them. Twas, a drawn out encounter where raw untried lads from both sides routed in all directions.
The English knights, experienced billmen, and mercenary keils dealt great damage to pursing and weary hapless reivers caught unawares, but nothing could stop the weaving, darting, whirling mass of raiders as they rounded up the cattle to herd over the border.
At times, the Scottish fared the worse but reiver inbreeding and their ability to ride light on their hardy nags or ponies won the day. The reivers renown for picking their way through and around the boggy moss lands and forest no small factor in their win.
