Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

Yes, that would work too. But why stop there? I would rather have each player send a whole day worth of orders. Simultaneously.

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

Have you had the opportunity to play against an opponent in 'real time'? That is simply not the experience I am looking for. Furthermore it would require some form of out-of-game communication that I am not willing to engage in, otherwise I would be playing Vassal or ZunTzu with my friends instead ...

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

Hello David! Thanks for joining the thread. I probably got carried away and didn't see all the consequences. I see now that it would probably be a different game, and it is probably a bad idea to ship two different games into the same package. Furthermore now that you have invested effort and money ...

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

I wrote about that earlier in the first post of this thread.
You have done all the hard work already by enumerating pretty much all the possible issues. The solutions are trivial in every case.

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

For instance I order my unit to make a strategic move of 3 regions in impulse 3. But in impulse 2 the enemy has ordered a unit into one of those regions that my unit is strategically moving through, therefore making my move illegal. However I have a combat in impulse 1 that if I win and achieve a b...

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

Oh, almost forgot, on Croix's original PBEM comments, I love the idea of pre-determining the day's moves in order of completion and having the AI determine results based on my opponents moves. I'd suggest it would require a pretty major re-write of the game and therefore it's very unlikely to happe...

Re: Four things about the rules that are bothering me

So the restrictions on attacks, such as reinforcing battles in progress, really models C3 problems coordinating efforts across command boundaries. Probably, but it can be argued it could have been better modeled. Being already engaged does not have any effect on defending units. Why that? As regard...

Re: Four things about the rules that are bothering me

I am not proposing to change the rules for Bulge. I am just saying that changes should be considered for the next games. But changing the rules to somehow take into account how far the units have already moved to engage in combat when determining breakthroughs adds to rule complexity which isn't des...

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

What's been your experience? It wasn't great. It was OK. I managed to play three or four games. None lasted beyond the 20th of December unfortunately. Somehow I failed to notice that one of the game was for the Run to the Meuse scenario. Needless to say, I lost this particular game. The pace was er...

Re: Four things about the rules that are bothering me

I imagine breakthrough happening because when all enemy units are wiped out in an area, the tank commanders abandon their usual caution and have a limited spurt of full speed movement. I agree this requires some suspension of disbelief, but its a game, and I don't feel its completely illogical. Yes...

Four things about the rules that are bothering me

Will El Alamein have the same rules as the Bulge? If yes I would like to share 4 things that are bothering me with the current rules. 1 - Breakthrough I don't think armor should be allowed to exceed its maximum movement by using breakthrough. Currently the situation is that armor can be expected to ...

Hi Yojimbo!
Three weeks have passed. Happy new year!
What do you think now of the Game Center experience?
How many games were you able to finish?

Re: The AIs

Additionally my approach favors teaching the AI to play the game, rather than relying on brute force computation. I understand and I respect your approach. My perception of the Bulge AI has evolved lately. It seems that most issues reported are about the AI making mistakes, especially related to su...

Re: Use of Panzer Brigade 150

How would you use it? Armor can be stacked with infantry to increase its defence (-1 modifier to the attacker). Armor is very mobile. It can do strategic moves, which Axis infantry cannot do. Use it to take control of an area, interdict a bridge, prevent river crossing by more than one unit, and so...

Re: The AIs

Hi Miguel! Thanks for sharing that! I praise your willingness to answer negative posts constructively. New Player Education Bulge Abstracts Movement, Combat and Supply differently than most other games in the genre. We wanted new players to be able to see an example of how these can be used, but als...

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

If I have to wait weeks for my next turn or my opponent drops out on me without resigning and the game hangs, that's when I start to get frustrated You must be joking. What are the odds that it won't happen? (fortunately I've not experienced this with BotB as yet) probably because the game might at...

Re: Idea for a better Game Center experience

I tend to make 2 to 3 moves per day It means you have committed to play the game for the next three weeks. You are aware of that, aren't you? (10 game-days times 6 Axis impulses per game-day divided by 2.5 impulses per day = 24 days) And it's assuming everyone keeps playing at the same pace. What I...
