Bases are 3mm MDF from East Riding Miniatures. I use model railway ballast (the brown one) in a mix of fine, medium and coarse. The smaller the figures the larger the mix of finer stuff. Then painted Brown Umber, dry brushed with a yellow brown, and finally an off white. The grass, it's a spring ...

The sitting up guy is from Corvus Belli. Part of the Victory and Defeat pack. Really nice figures and if I paint more I will go the CB route, despite the faff of sticking on shields!

I think the last tournament I played my opponent argued every single decision and tried to twist the rules so much that in the end I just said that if winning was so important he could have the game, and I just conceded. It really wasn't worth all the aggro. I play to enjoy the games, not to argue ...

True you can use nicely made up hills on a friendly club game. But try placing your troops on a slope in a tournement and watch them fall then try and measure from which base front in a BG with no stright front edge. To some people measurments do count I could see problums there. I am all for ...
