15mm Carthaginian Spearmen

Finally got round to re-basing and putting together the four units of Carthaginian spear I've had 'in progress' since 1994! http://www.belisarius.org.uk/images/forums/punicspear01.jpg http://www.belisarius.org.uk/images/forums/punicspear02.jpg http://www.belisarius.org.uk/images/forums/punicspear03....

Essex and Corvus Belli mix together well. You can see some here: http://blog.belisarius.org.uk/2011/02/15mm-gauls-for-fog-and-dbmm.html I've not tried mixing OG as I tend to find them bigger but then my only experience is with their C18th range. Donnington I actually like. Bare metal they look a lit...

Bases are 3mm MDF from East Riding Miniatures. I use model railway ballast (the brown one) in a mix of fine, medium and coarse. The smaller the figures the larger the mix of finer stuff. Then painted Brown Umber, dry brushed with a yellow brown, and finally an off white. The grass, it's a spring gra...

The sitting up guy is from Corvus Belli. Part of the Victory and Defeat pack. Really nice figures and if I paint more I will go the CB route, despite the faff of sticking on shields!

15mm Gauls...

Here are some pics of the first lot of my Gauls. They will form part of my Punic armies. Painted by Conflict in Colour (bar the casualties and head-man) and based by me. http://www.belisarius.org.uk/images/forums/gaul01.jpg More pics on my blog here: http://blog.belisarius.org.uk/2011/01/basing-dile...

After a year of little gaming and way less painting than I have purchased I have decided to make this year my Wargaming Neutral Year! I cannot buy lead unless I've painted the equivalent, and even if I buy I can only use funds generated by selling wargame related surplus! Full details and my progres...

The set costs $17.99 and shipping is just $5.25. For what you get and the quality I think it's fine.

Markers/Tokens for FoG

There are several threads running in different sections about markers/tokens for FoG. For those who like the plastic, labeled kind I've reviewed a couple of sets on my blog: http://blog.belisarius.org.uk/2010/05/review-field-of-glory-markers.html http://blog.belisarius.org.uk/2010/05/review-field-of...

I worked in archaeology for 10 years and then returned to IT. Partly in response to lack of work and progression, partly because my back and knees were knackered! And important issue. I got tenosynovitis of my dominant wrist from trowelling at age 17 and it has never really been quite right since. ...

There is some work around but not a lot. Commercial work has slowed and when work does come up it can often be a case of who you know as units will have lists of reliable staff. I worked in archaeology for 10 years and then returned to IT. Partly in response to lack of work and progression, partly b...

Thanks for the replies. I think if I'd known the rules a little better I'd probably have been a little more wary of the big skirmishers fight. I do find it hard to think that the might of two armies would sit around waiting for the skirmishers to finish their spat? Maybe there SHOULD be a way for sk...

If starting afresh I'd go 10mm as there is nice stuff out there. But I'm too old to start entire armies/periods again in a new scale from scratch! :)

I think the last tournament I played my opponent argued every single decision and tried to twist the rules so much that in the end I just said that if winning was so important he could have the game, and I just conceded. It really wasn't worth all the aggro. I play to enjoy the games, not to argue t...

Well, it was DBM that droveme away from Ancients, and FoG that is drawing me back in.

Hopefully the painting will proceed at a more productive rate now!

I started the legion back in 1994 so they've been a long time coming! http://www.belisarius.org.uk/images/triarii2.jpg http://www.belisarius.org.uk/images/triarii4.jpg More pics on my blog http://blog.belisarius.org.uk/2009/09/ad-...

True you can use nicely made up hills on a friendly club game. But try placing your troops on a slope in a tournement and watch them fall then try and measure from which base front in a BG with no stright front edge. To some people measurments do count I could see problums there. I am all for layin...
