Finally finished the triarii for my second legion for Field of Glory. I started the legion back in 1994 so they've been a long time coming!

Not surprised that you didn't rush production of Romans through during the DBM period though.

Well, it was DBM that droveme away from Ancients, and FoG that is drawing me back in.

Hopefully the painting will proceed at a more productive rate now!

Funny you should say this. I called up several people just the other day in a state of sheer euphoria, because for the first time since '92 I was painting ancients, and painting them for an imminent tournament. I never played DBM. I was not enthused with WRG 7th but I could accept it. I enjoyed DBA for what it was but felt that it was too limited a framework to support large battles. When DBM came along I watched more than a few really large tournaments, to see if I really wanted to digest another set of rules. Everywhere I saw tortured, ridiculous deployments of historically insignificant armies, and banks of tables occupied by joyless players who looked as if they were doing tax returns. A floor of office cubicles looks more fun. I took a looong pass.

FoG has me back in the game.

I think the last tournament I played my opponent argued every single decision and tried to twist the rules so much that in the end I just said that if winning was so important he could have the game, and I just conceded. It really wasn't worth all the aggro. I play to enjoy the games, not to argue the whole time.

I was almost tempted by the FoG Tournament at Derby but can't guarantee how long I'll be there. Maybe next time...

Beautiful work Andy.

FoG has me painting 15mm stuff now............as much as I think the scale is a 'tweener'........its whats being played....

If starting afresh I'd go 10mm as there is nice stuff out there. But I'm too old to start entire armies/periods again in a new scale from scratch!

Yep.............me too..........10mm gives enough detail and you can get a real sense of mass...........

25/28mm for the skirmish type games.........10mm for mass battles is the way to go.

am thinking the same about 10mm.

and am painting some 28mm for those big games.

plenty of fun to be had.
