Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
To Jay13's point about troops being unwilling to continue to push past the line of battle, there is one recorded battle in history that I know of where the battle line definitely broke apart into 3 separate pieces, resolved their own individual smaller engagements before line dancing to a relativel...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
Your images support exactly what I am saying. Note that none of your units were pushed more than what looks like two spaces away from the initial point and thus the line of battle is retained albeit in a bit of a ragged state. The pushing you demonstrated is perfectly fine and could represent natur...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
To get pushed back you need to lose the combat badly. YET if it happens many times that mean you are losing, rolling for cohesion test with a mal modifier yet somehow "passing", over and over. Extreme luck, extreme results. Perhaps there's to many foot general s now giving umbrella cohesi...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
I'll tell you what I'll support your rules change if you will also support having a mechanism to allow light infantry to attack heavier troops (e.g. can charge fragmented troops) or at least shoot at them from the rear, instead of sitting there behind heavy infantry and having a cup of tea and disc...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
The pushback mechanic benefits historical deployments such as the Roman chequerboard and though I don't like it's unpredictability, I'm willing to live with its effects. In my last game, I charged a Light infantry unit with pikes, the light infantry evaded, then the pikes hit the unit behind it, wh...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
Thats why I advocate a limitation on how far a unit can be pushed. A unit being pushed 2 or three squares is sufficient to create chaos and uncertainty when attacking but it avoids my troops pushing an opponent half way across the map which is something I have a hard time finding believable. Some ti...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
Indeed, I started this precisely to see what others thought, see if there were possibly some ways to mitigate it, or even find out if there was any interest in altering the mechanic. Based on my experience, I doubt that altering the mechanic via the methods I purposed above (mostly the limited push ...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
It just seems silly to me to have my infantry break completely out of line and push back a unit for a bunch of turns in a row. To me it would make more sense if a unit could only be pushed back a square or two or a pushback would happen less often like if a unit holds firm for two or more turns in a...

Re: Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
What? P&S didnt have a pushing mechanic. Im not talking about chasing after routing units, Im talking about the tendency for powerful units to push weaker units across the map.

Anyone else think the pushback system is a bit overdone?
It wouldnt be too much of an issue if pushbacks were limited to one or two squares of the units initial position but it is a little ridiculous to see a bunch of units getting pushed five squares back way out of the line of battle and just makes some fights a clustered, silly mess. I dont really know...

Any chance to see more helmet variation
It would be nice to see a bit less uniformity in the types of headgear worn by troops, particularly the hellenistic factions.

Re: Apollonia 220 BC Scenario
So is it possible to mod the Selucid pikemen the way they are in the Scenario (or at least change the skins) outside of the scenario so they can be used in skirmishes and campaigns?

Re: Slingers vs Javelinmen
Jam, what is your obsession with javelins, if their portrayal bothers you so much just mod the game to make them do more damage. Even so, having them be more effective probably wont change the overall result of the battle. Besides, this game is more about the overall "big picture" of ancie...

Romans with plumes
Why do the Marian legionaries all have plumed helmets? This seems like an odd historical oversight. I am just wondering as to the logic of the choice.

Lag on deployment screen
I’ve been playing with my wimpy school computer and have noticed that when I mouse over units to select them in the deployment phase, I get a significant amount of lag. The rest of the game runs smooth (relatively). I assume this is some problem due to the weakness of my laptop but I am wondering if...

Re: Melee engagements during the era of Pike and Shot
Despite how silly that looks I suspect it was rather unpleasant being wacked with a yari tip. I can imagine why they would develop such a tactic due to the general abundance of at least some armor on nearly every soldier in sengoku japan. Probably effective for disrupting the enemy and forcing a ret...

Melee engagements during the era of Pike and Shot
So I've heard some people theorize that in this era of warfare, pike units didn't actually engage other pike units as it would have been too deadly and the men would not have willingly engaged in the fight. What is the verdict on this?

Best way to arrange your infantry line?
Hey, its me again, asking more questions. Sorry if I'm getting annoying with all of them :D So I have heard someone say that the only way you should arrange your infantry units is in a checkerboard formation, never in a line. Is it true that in this game the checkerboard formation has a benefit over...
