Re: Strategy Games but not realtime.
Almost sounds like one of my threads :) Yeah real time is only attractive to the really young as I see it. With the exception of Panther Games, I find it hard to play fast enough to matter in the long run. It's not that I can't think fast, but my arcade days are back where they belong, in the 80s. ...

Re: Strategy Games but not realtime.
Add me to this list of RTS detractors, sort of. While I don't like playing them, they do as a whole look more realistic then their turn based cousins. What I don't understand is why game companies don't combine the two. Sid Myers Gettysburg, and the Combat Mission games come to mind. Giving orders,...

Re: Strategy Games but not realtime.
:D yes! Back in the days of the 1980s and 1990s when computer gaming just getting popular, slow-play Strategy games were more popular than real time tactical games with aStrategic over-lay. Even Nintendo style game systems produced a number of these. And there was a very popular stategy system of se...

CUSTER had better chance than I did in "Storming Stalingrad"....He only lost 1/3 of his battalion...whereas most of my core was got shot to hell (except for my Arty's)..Prestige I had hoarded went fast as we adsorbed hoards of those Russkie Dudes pounding the crap outta my folks.....I'm to...

well.....here I be...staggering into Simferopol of 1942.....Kharkov42 was a dogfight....I had thought the Soviet Air and Armored forces would be more numerous....through sheer stoopidity I lost an SE tank unit during a flanking move...left it exposed to a small horde of enemy infantry...'twas sad wa...

I am berry berry rusty.....loss's now include several core units..one being a SE....Have just started the 1941 Demyansk Pocket....it's been a struggle....Tho the Germans have interior lines....The sheer number of Soviet grounds forces is at times a scramble for me when I need to plug a gap or two......

I find your analysis of the AAR's very helpful and insightful ...what would be also cool if the AAR's would show in detail your initial deployment of forces. This game is an absolute blast.

Re: DLC '44 #12: Return to Kishinev
IF one can survive the initial wave of Russian forces you have a chance. BUT good grief...that onslaught...if was massive and unrelenting. I used two battle-groups of Panthers & artys with INF support to take care of the Rumanians. Everything else was up front except one small "firefighting...

Re: DLC '44 #11: Warsaw Uprising
I didn't like playing this scenario..for the reason's stated above. Tactically it was not nearly as difficult as others. When one play's it's easy to see or imagine the folks that lived in the City having a hard time fending off the veteran troops of the German Army. Every turn one plays one wonders...
