Re: Last update?
Thanks Nacho! I'm not a Russian speaker myself, but I'm glad the game will be available in Russian. It seemed a shame that BARIS & RIS didn't (and couldn't, due to limitations in the code) include Russian, given that that's one of the founding languages of the Space Race. I'm glad BASPM is going...

Last update?
So am I right in thinking that development of BASPM has stopped, and 1.6.25 will be the last patch for the game (barring unforeseen circumstances)? This is just out of curiosity. For sake of completeness, I like to burn the last patch of a favorite game to CD/DVD, and I don't want to burn 1.6.25 if ...

Re: Ideas for the future of SPM
Condorito has a good point there. The second part of the game could include potentially more space programs. Though historically they started later--and less ambitiously--than the US, it might be fun to allow other player(s) in our space sim. This would be similar to Colonization and FreeCol , where...

Re: SPM and Liftoff
Incidentally, another notable difference between Liftoff and BARIS was that some of the names of hardware were different, especially for the Soviets, since Liftoff was released in 1989, when the Soviet space program was still secret. BARIS took advantage of some of the early information that came ou...

Re: SPM and Liftoff
Hello Peyre, First thanks for the work you did on Race Into Space, I played it a lot (and I mean a lot !). About the dates, I'd say it was 1993 and 1994, am I correct ? I'm not sure that PCs with CD-drive were very common in '84  I bought (well, my father bought for me !) the CD version in 19...

Re: Ideas for the future of SPM
I know it's a little late and this is kind of nitpicky, but I still find it disconcerting to see British spellings used by NASA. For the Soviets or GSA, either US or UK conventions would work, but it doesn't make sense for NASA to use British spellings--it'd be like a political sim of the UK using U...

Enhancement Request - Bulletin News
At first glance it can be hard to get a feel for the turn's news. I think it would make things a little clearer if the color of the title bar for each item in the news items was different based on what type of news it was: Green for good random events, Red for bad random events, Blue for routine inf...

In the meantime you could always play Race Into Space. That works on both Linux and Mac.

Re: SPM and Liftoff
Fritz Bronner, yes.
Correct, BARIS was released on floppy in 1983. It had a couple of patches, then it came out on CD in 1984 with much better movies and some better music, plus assorted other improvements.

Enhancement Request - Keyboard Shortcuts
As it is, you have to click, click, click on everything. Maybe there could be keyboard shortcuts for some of the more obvious choices, like Yes/No, which Save game slot to load, or which building to pull up in construction mode (they're listed in top right by number).

Re: Fun game, poor interface
Another idea for when/where to display personnel needed, how about this? I think it would be a good idea, when you start a new program, for the game to warn you if you'll need more personnel. For instance, say I've just finished Explorer and started Mercury unmanned suborbital. The game tells me $12...

Re: Not Enough Feedback/Information
Agreed. When a failure occurred, BARIS usually gave some in-game explanation: - "Engines underperforming. Orbit achieved using longer burn" - "Problem with waste disposal unit, very messy. Crew able to clean up. Mission still a go." - "A computer error causes probe to spin o...

Re: Anyone using WINE?
Yes, I'm running the latest version of Wine (1.72.28) on Xubuntu 14.10. I couldn't get the game to run out of the box. It would open to the first screen, but: The Manual button wouldn't work at all. The Update button would start the updater; if there was an update available the updater would update ...

Well that would explain it. My main computer is a Linux box, so I've been using my kids' hand-me-down computer. Thanks for your time on this, Nacho.

Thanks Nacho. I've updated the graphics drivers, and installed the latest version of SPM, but it's still doing the same thing. I've attached my latest output file, in case it helps.

Re: Language choices
Speaking of other languages, I hope Russian will be offered eventually. We've had several people say they wished BARIS/RIS could be translated into the language of the world's first space program, but the game can't display Cryillic characters...or anything besides your basic Latin capital letters. ...
