Advice from Plantagenet Experts?
I'm looking to kill two birds with one stone - if possible. I have a Mongol army all painted up and am thinking that I could create a Late Crusader army as a mated pair for it. On the other hand, I have a great print from a painting by Mark Churms (The Great Siege, Dover Castle 1216; http://www.mark...

I never really understood the requirement that BGs start with an even number of stands. Let's say I start with an 8-stand battle group. And then lose one stand to missile fire, but cohesion remains the same. For the rest of the game, there is no difference for this BG if I had started with 7 stands....

Thanks for the advice. I am probably going to mount all the Gauls as heavy infantry and then designate a few has medium for each scenario. I'm also thinking about incorporating the idea that undrilled impact foot causes a -2 to cohesion tests (instead of the minus one). That ought to create even mor...

Gallic Tribes Classification?
Since I'm getting close to finishing my Gallic and Roman armies, I've been thinking about playing some historical battles. Some of the battle descriptions mention the specific Gallic tribes present at the battle. The Senones were at Allia (390BC). The Boii and Insubres were at Telamon. The Nervii we...

tips: - dont take too many spartans or you will be too small - take some protected hoplites as well to save on points - take a mix of drilled and undrillled. - drilled on the wings and undrilled in the centre - take heaps of LF in 8s to absorb missile fire on your Bgs of 6 and to fill Difficult - d...

I have yet to learn how to command my Spartan army. I lose just about every time with it. Sure, those armored, superior, offensive spear sound awesome, but there are only a handful of those guys (read: expensive). Cavalry armies circle around both ends. Romans win in the impact phase. Phalanx can be...

I'm considering another option. My complete set of 6mm ECW figures is composed of two small armies for Polemos. Roughly 16 stands of infantry (36 figures each), 24 stands of cavalry (9 figures each), 6 stands of commanders (3 figures each), and 6 artillery pieces. I'm seriously considering cutting a...

6mm?
Anyone playing FoG:R using 6mm figures? If so, how did you decide to mount the figures? On bases for 15mm, but doubling the number of figures per base? Right now, I have two small ECW armies based for Polemos and am considering remounting them, but not really sure how to proceed. Wondering if there ...

Hi Hazelbark You're playing at the Game Parlor, right? I've been there several times - but not to play FoG though. I understand that most FoG games there are played on Wednesday nights. There is just no way I could make on a weeknight. Plus, school starts in a week (Sept 14th), which means I won't b...

People who say bad things, don't know how to play the game. It is probably my favorite book. I'm not sure I know how to play the game... but I've been most successful playing a Western Wei army. My Spartan army has VERY FEW wins and my Parthian army has even fewer. The T'ang figures look awesome, b...

I'm getting a little familiar with Oriental armies. I have a Western Wei army. It has a large variety of units and is fun to play. My only complaint is that I haven't gotten to play enough games with them to feel comfortable commenting on tactics. I also just got a Mongol army back from being painte...

Several movies have been made about Genghis Khan. One of my favorites is Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea. The movie starts with Temujin's birth and ends when he starts the invasion of China. In it, Temujin goes from very poor to very rich of course. It's cool to watch how his personal...

I completely agree. The friends in my gaming group have focused on a different time period from you. We have armies from Alexander the Great to Late Roman Republic. Personally, I have a Spartan, Persian, and Parthian armies. They all play very differently. Yesterday, I took my Parthians against my f...

Picking a FoG:Ancients Army that could morph into FoG:R
I have several ancients armies, but most are from Rise and Rome, Immortal Fire, Empires of the Dragon. And I'm thinking about expanding into a new time period - one with knights. And Showtime's The Tudors has me all giddy about a 16th century army. I'm really looking forward to FoG:R and would like ...

I was thinking of going in a different direction in regards to mini-FoG. How about thinking in terms of figures instead of stands? Each BG is always 2 stands. Therefore, a HF BG would be 8 figures strong, always. A Cav BG would be 6 figures strong. A LH would be 4 figures strong. Death Dice would in...
