Re: How's the scenario design for OOB Marine?

The intelligence and integrity the Artistocrats team are applying to OOB is self evident from their responsiveness to this and so many other threads - OOB cannot be "all things to all men" , yet by any reckoning it is THE break-out wargame - moving the genre by virtue of innovation signifi...

Re: Air Units q&a ?

Erik the 4-5 turn formulation you outline effectively dials the air power factor back towards a more realistic footing - in the present game default air movement distances are indeed too short per turn / game turns over extended for air units. An iteration might be for a toggle on/off option in the ...

Re: Air Units q&a ?

Circling back to my original Q1 in this thread can a brilliant and gifted mind in this forum yet offer a rational explanation of the game logic underpinning air units in relation to scenario elapsed time held against the reality measure of : primarily "air" battles such as Battle of Britai...

Re: Air Units q&a ?

replying to Bitenibblechomp post item 1 : appreciate OOB has to pander to a "beer and pretzels" front end look and feel to be commercially viable - however - the game designers differentiate this game by inserting a background realism to the modules PG lacks (e.g. supply) - my sense is : p...

Air Units q&a ?

Most everything about OOB is exceptionally good - it's becoming THE best of class wargame. Q1 : I would like to understand the programme logic around the number of turns (usually c.12) air units remain "in flight" - taken literally this suggests each unit remains operational for over a wee...

Re: OOB land mines use by Japanese + effect on supply ?

Ok thanks for clarity - impression is the Ai where playing the Japanese side has either (a) not been programmed to resort to deployment of land mines, or, (b) relative lack of Japanese engineer units in scenarios I have played inhibits Ai use of improvised land mine laying. As the US player, land mi...

OOB land mines use by Japanese + effect on supply ?

Have played thru all scenarios in the series releases presently half way thru U.S. Marines latest release : Q1 : can a Moderator explain logic behind the sparse use of land mines by the Japanese side ? Is the minimal presence of land mines in most of the scenarios on the Japanese side reflecting a h...

Re: OOB U.S. Marines coastal defences

OK thanks this clarifies - yes Tarawa scenario in particular seemed unduly lenient on US landing craft in light of historic actual events there is no doubt the Japanese
had some capacity to strike US units in the beach approaches etc.

OOB U.S. Marines coastal defences

This is a very cool wargame. Can a moderator explain the game logic around the Japanese coastal bunker defences ranged fire ? Don't understand why they cannot conduct ranged artillery fire on incoming vessels (prior to beach landing) in the U.S. Marines module, with the exception of turreted coastal...

Re: Order of Battle :Europe?

Yes Europe and N.Africa campaigns = "must buy". Strong platform for an Operation Sea Lion OOB "what if" ? Great game innovation - depth and breadth combined - congratulations to the Design team on a quantum step in game design like Talonsoft innovation in the mid 90's ?

Re: Submarine spotting in submerged mode ?

Yes that must be the reason - there's no reference to this outcome in the Manual under the entries for submarines I can find but it makes sense now - thanks !

Submarine spotting in submerged mode ?

Can anyone explain the parameters for submerged submarine spotting ? The hex scale of OOB Pacific looks to be 1 mile per hex - my Allied side submarines in submerged mode have been spotted / attacked up to 10 hex range distance (without other enemy units closer than Jap side attack unit) e.g. in the...

Naval Units firing range

I have completed the Sealion scenario winning as the Allied side - the bombardment range of German vessels anchored off the English coast enabled them to bombard units in London suburbs at geographical ranges of c. 60 miles ? Is this intended or a bug ?
