OOB land mines use by Japanese + effect on supply ?

Post by rad »

Have played thru all scenarios in the series releases presently half way thru U.S. Marines latest release : Q1 : can a Moderator explain logic behind the sparse use of land mines by the Japanese side ? Is the minimal presence of land mines in most of the scenarios on the Japanese side reflecting a historic lack of land mine use ? Sea mines are more widely featured in the scenarios on the Japanese side duly noted. Q2 : where I deploy setting of land mines to deny a strategic town or route to the Japanese does this effect the supply performance of such hexes for my side ? Ditto if I sea mine in our around a harbour hex does that effect my supply output ? Thanks !

I do not think land mines block or inhibit supply. Ownership of supply locations and an unbroken link of hexes from a unit to a supply location is the key.
Land mines lowering supply is interesting, but this could also apply to difficult terrain like mountain, jungle etc. I) think this would be a good idea to force full supply along roads & rails. But you'd need some visual for the player so he can easily spot any bottlenecks.

Naval units are always in supply. I believe this is in accordance with most scenario lengths. Naval scnearios usually last only days.

Use of mines is up to the scenario designer. There may be difficulties obtaining detailed maps with mine fields, usually they are only mentioned in the narrative.

Ok thanks for clarity - impression is the Ai where playing the Japanese side has either (a) not been programmed to resort to deployment of land mines, or, (b) relative lack of
Japanese engineer units in scenarios I have played inhibits Ai use of improvised land mine laying. As the US player, land mine placement has a decisive impact on winning scenarios
esp in defensive mode owing to shortage of Japanese engineer units for clearance, prompting my q&a below ref. supply impact etc.
