I think it is important to remember that the oil mechanics in the game are abstract - 0 oil doesn't mean 'no oil left in Germany', it means 'not enough oil left for OKH to use in a strategic way'. If you want a reserve to save for counter-attacks, then stop using oil burning units before you get any...

I haven't seen this effect myself, but here goes my opinion... It seems to me that, whatever the game mechanics, the overall effect of negative oil is quite realistic, in that you totally lose the initiative about what your units are doing. Oil should only ever run out in the very last stages of the...

The nearest thing you will find to SPQR today is the excellent Rome: Total War, with the Barbarian Invasion expansion pack. I highly recommend using the mod Darth Mod 8.1, which makes the tactical battles much better. This is the only PC game I haven't been able to beat yet - playing the Western Rom...

I have a Matrix Games version so the default folder it installed into is C:Matrix Games/Commander Europe at War, but the Java hotfix says the game isn't in there and won't install.

It's a Maus [Mouse] - it was much larger even than a King Tiger (I believe the secondary co-axial weapon was a 75mm, the same size as a Sherman's main gun). The Germans were developing it at the end of the war, I seem to remember they built two of them but one wasn't finished and the other broke dow...

When I change the other stats in the leader.txt file, the ones used in the game still don't change. It is as if they are hard coded?!? Does anyone know?

Possum, Thank you for your very detailed post! I have done 1) and 2) but it still won't work. I have tried to install the Java Hotfix but my copy of the game is not in the default folder and it won't accept the correct folder when I select it, it says the application is not there! I am running XP, o...

Changing Costs of Commanders

I am having trouble changing the costs of the Commanders, as I want to reduce them, to get more use out of them in the game. I have changed the costs listed in both the leader.txt and leader_eng.txt files, but in the game they are still the same when I run it. Are the leaders defined anywhere else? ...

I un-installed the editor and re-installed it and now it runs but I am back to my original problem - I only have the up and down scroll bar on the RHS of the screen, not the box at the bottom with the options and controls etc. Still help!?

Problems with map editor

I just downloaded the editor but when I ran it I could only see the western map edge, and scroll up and down but not east-west. I though the problem might be with my version of Java as I haven't updated it for ages, so I downloaded the most recent version of that and now the editor won't run at all....

Capturing Oil Wells

As the Germans I have captured numerous oil wells, but on the statistics screen they do not show up as being under my control. I am not even sure I am getting any extra oil, which was the point in capturing them. How does the game deal with capturing oil wells and how quickly do you get extra oil, a...

That's a shame. Do you know why the game was designed like this, it seems a bit unrealistic. Surely invasions against a defended area are a high-risk and exciting factor in WW2?

Does anyone know if it is possible to mod the game to allow you to invade into an occupied hex by attacking the unit that occupies it?
